'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

Dang, Basilio ripped the coaching staff in his blog today. Basically said that Trey would be better served elsewhere and may commit here only due to loyalty. Unfortunately, he's probably right, but I hope recruits don't read it or pay attention to it! We know Butch is making staff changes and the recruits know it to

I hope so. This is a big commitment. A home grown player of this caliber shouldn't leave the state. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Everybody wants our team to improve. Everybody says we have to have 5* recruits to get better. People then say that the 5* recruits would be better served by going to a different school. Surely I'm not the only one that sees the stupidity here.

We have had to completely rebuild the OL after the 2013 season. The OL has further been hampered by injuries and thus a lack of cohesiveness. We absolutely need Trey and more players like him to come to UT, work hard, stay healthy, and re-establish the trenches at UT. We used to be known for our linemen but mismanagement and less than stellar coaching have us where we are. We need Trey and a great OL coach.

Injuries have clearly been a factor this season. No doubt. What was it, like 7 different OL combinations? That means something. I think Debord will be able to develop them just fine if he has full control next year.

What makes you think that?

Really though, it's what they are saying is why I think that.

Committing just out of loyalty? I'll take it!

Some blue chips in the vicinity could take some notes on that.

Would be a huge get and would help with my worries that Butch's recruiting will slip with this bad season we had.

Development thing on OL is overblown. Individually guys like Hall, Jones, Thomas when healthy, Weisman, Kerybson, Kendrick, Boulware have all improved. Richmond got better as year went. Robertson one of the few to regress on OL. The biggest issue early this year was Thomas was hurt, went from gap to zone blocking, rb that didn't know how to run zone, lineup inconsistency all camp. Once settled on a lineup and it became the Kamara/Kelly show the OL magically looked great as a unit.

Debord is one of the better OL coaches available and will be able to work full time with that unit next year. Smith will be just fine in this program
