The key word was resume. If Butch lands smith, curb stomps Nebraska and lands a top 10 class he will be on his way to resuming it.
still would need to see more on the field next fall but I'd say with those things he would be on pace.

yeah i agree with that. But to indicate there has been some upward trajectory surrounding Butch Jones this season is absolutely false. Stupid off the field comments that turned is team and players into a national punch line combined with 98% of the season looking like a soft poorly coached team. IMO, adding a 5 star left tackle is great to show that some highly touted recruits got paid mo....i mean still have faith in the program. But we will simply be a soft historically bad defensive team...with a 5 star left tackle. A convincing win in the MCB will be the only thing that can reverse trajectory for Butch Jones as it will show is ability to get the team up for a game they don't want to be at and show that the kids still fight for him, in my opinion.

downplaying what? Literally nothing has happened since Butch's soft undisciplined poorly coached team got Butch slapped by Vanderbilt. If we land Smith today that is great. It will do very little to aid Butch Jones coaching ability which is the real issue.

Butch failed to meet expectations this fall, no question. But I often wonder why Shoop doesn't take more heat than he does? Butch and DeBord get raked over the coals daily but the fact is that Shoop's defense is a HUGE reason we went 8-4 and could easily have a few more L's.

Butch and Shoop better get it fixed this offseason or we'll need to average 50 points on offense next fall to win the East.

From what I understand (no inside information) Butch still controls everything. So you have assistants that want to do things Butch's way and Shoop overseeing the show. I find it hard to believe that Bob Shoop forgot how to coach a defense this year. So ill go with the guy that has proven to us that his coaching ability is suspect. That doesn't mean they cant figure it out, because there is still plenty of talent on the team.

no, you have been fooled into thinking I'm not a real fan because by opinion of what an 18 year old kid is going to do is different what "real fans" think he is going to do.

Its EVERYONES best guess as to what he is going to do. Recruiting analyst don't have a clue what the guy is going to do. He hasn't told them jack to form their opinions. There is lots of logic behind my opinion

1. He said during an all star game he grew up an Alabama fan.
2. Recruiting history of Alabama / Ohio St. vs Tennessee
3. Trajectory of the programs currently.
4. Lack of development of players at Tennessee
5. The willingness of Alabama to outbid an team of a recruit they want.

Call me what you want and have any opinion of me you want. I really don't care. I have been a vols fan since I was old enough to know what football was. and I don't live in the comfortable hills of Knoxville where everyone is a vols fan. I live in Alabama. I hate every other team in the country except Navy and I hope every SEC team loses their bowl except the Music City Bowl. You will never find a post on here of me bashing a player, likewise you will find tons bashing me for sticking up for players. I want nothing more than for Tennessee to succeed.

You can criticize scheme, play-calling, whatever, but there is one thing in all 4 years that you can't criticize under Butch- players will fight until the end and play hard for him.

Not sure why you would insinuate anything strange with Smith's recruitment. The fact that his sister is a grad and works for UT helps. I just shake my head at some of our fans. Our fans are softer than our players.

SC loss was not on D. We gave up 10 points due to turnovers so more like 14. D did enough to win that one. Other games after that not so much.
