'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

You really believe that?

Why does he need our recruiting targets, if he's already targeting those prospects because they are on Clemson's board? Either that, or it tells me Butch and his staff's evaluations, especially of diamond in the rough prospects, are held in high regard by other coaches.

And for the other smart butt comments towards my original post on this...I don't need to sit this one out or whatever else was said. Losing Tee stung a little but it sure didn't ruin my Monday, as it did so many on here. I didn't make a single post in that thread until way later that day, and the only thing I was and currently am interested in is why dyllisvol42 still thinks he ends up a Vol. As I said yesterday in the football talk thread, I'm super excited about this season, and still not worried about recruiting at all while Butch Jones is our coach.

Haha

Was it a top secret we wanted Higgins, Smith, Williams, Crosby, etc? Clemson didn't need some list. Those are elite prospects everybody wants.

As of now I don't see Clemson going after rough diamonds.

You are saying the same thing as I'm saying...my question is why does Dabo need our recruiting targets' list? Someone said that is why Hunter came to TN for one last visit as a silent to Clemson before decommitting...why, if Dabo is already targeting the same prospects? I could care less. I believe in Butch 100% on the recruiting trail...he has earned that respect, from me at least. He has a few things to prove to me as an in-game coach, but I think he has learned from his mistakes and will prove that in less than 2 months. He started by making a huge move with his DC fire/hire.

No evidence of that

Rodgers: “If you want to win and play with the best come to Clemson” | The Clemson Insider

Outside of Dabo Swinney Amari might be the best recruiter for the 2017 class. He has a simple message that he passes on to other recruits.

“I just want to play with the best. I want to win. Clemson is the perfect offense that I want to play in. I want to play with the best in the country and I want to win. If you want to win and play with the best then come to Clemson,” said Rodgers.

One of Amari’s top remaining targets is another great from Tennessee, offensive lineman Trey Smith.

“We are still working on him. He is hard to crack. He is quiet about who he likes. We definitely have a chance. We just need to get him to come on visits to Clemson and put good stuff in his head,” said Rodgers.

This week Amari is heading out to The Opening to play with some of the best players in the nation. He will get to play on the same team with future teammates Hunter Johnson and Tee Higgins.

The All-American plans to do some recruiting while out west.

“There is no doubt. All three of us can now go out there and recruit for Clemson,” said Rodgers.

It would be great to see some evidence that UT has vocal leaders that are actively peer recruiting for us, since schools like Clemson are using it to tremendous advantage.

I think the lack of a vocal leader in this year's class has hurt UT. However, it appears that Cade Mays has separated himself as the point man for next year's class.

Following his commitment Gray said he was going to be recruiting the instate recruits hard. He didn't sway Higgins, but hopefully he will have some impact on Smith, Chandler, and others.

Maybe Hunter Johnson will do terrible at the Opening with Amari and Tee. That would be nice.

Listen folks. The list isn't to know who to target as much as to where we value them ourselves. If you know a coache's board then it helps you tremendously from a strategy standpoint. Also, he was sent to do some one on one while there. All under the guise of a committed prospect the coaches trusted as a QB commit.

chavis, here's the answer to your question to me about Dabo really wanting a list.

One of the best skills I've ever learned in business is to stop talking and let others continue to talk on and on. Their intentions show throw eventually. (Wish I could bold a particular statement when I "QUOTE" from mobile.)

Regardless if it is in the media or not, we have guys recruiting for us

Dirty Clemson spy.

Agreed. That's one thing I don't get. People are assuming our guys aren't recruiting just because they aren't letting the world in on their conversations on Twitter. I'm sure their doing a lot of talking behind the scenes. I still think we get Chandler and Smith.

I think we get Chandler. I'm just not there yet with Smith. Bama is tough to beat if they really want a kid. Not impossible, but tough.

I just have a good feeling. I know it will be a fight until signing day, but our staff seems to be making him a bigger priority than anyone. Mays is in his ear and him and Richmond are cool. Our play this season will make or break this class.
