Hubbs on sports talk today said they had several backs ahead of Richardson including Chandler. He also mentioned Cam Akers. Said he and coach Gillespie were tight.

This confirms my suspicion that they really were not that all disappointed that Richardson committed to Clemson.

Richardson is a good back, I like his film but I really like Chandler's game better. As for Akers, I can also see him being a really good back for us as well. I don't understand why everyone was freaking out when Richardson committed to Clemson. It's obvisous Butch and the staff like other running backs better on their board.

Hubbs indicated that he wasn't surprised that Richardson committed elsewhere but he was shocked he committed to Clemson. Said he didn't think he fit the Clemson mold for a back. Said he didn't fit a zone read offense. Didn't think he was a fit for the Vols either.

To a degree, yes, but some of the elite instate recruits this year didn' grow up as UT fans. You can push the "stay home" sell, but it's not as easy when the kid was not a fan previously, and even harder if he was a fan of another school that is actively recruiting them. You have to push other buttons, which Butch is very good at.

I think Michigan State would be a good fit for him. Pretty sure he visited up there

I dont see us landing Akers unless we have a great season. Even then I think its less than 50%. I do think we will land Chandler and he will be a great RB in Butchs offense.

So many kids grow up bandwagon fans these days with accessibility to basically any team they want. I'm a youth pastor and it's ridiculous how these kids change their favorite team each season. Considering that we weren't doing so hot when these recruits were in their early teenage years, many of them will say they didn't grow up UT fans.

Tn is still in Akers top 5 I think but still behind OM, UGA, and Bama.

Spent a few minutes watching this kids film yesterday. He's my favorite RB on the board. I like Gray, but this kids film is great. He has great vision at the point of attack. He won't get to line up as deep and get up as much steam in college, but he'll be great..

Ty will continue to rack up offers and attention. Kid is a extremely hard worker and has put on some good weight. He does like Coach G and the others at UT. He's easily the top Rb on the board at UT and in the state. Glad to have the opportunity to be around and see this kid as he is one of the NPA kids also

D1 what kinda of recruiting impact do you think Shoop will make in the midstate.

A major impact because many don't know but he was 1 of Franklin's ace recruiters and closer. He relates well and it seems as though he like CBJ always knows what to say. Needless to say in a 5-7 minute phone call he bkew my mind speaking on all the different ways to use a few kids from our program in his system.
