"Yesterday was great to see all the in-state guys there," Chandler said. "Being around guys from the same community you are from was a fun time. I saw a lot of people that I knew. We have spoke about playing together some, but at the same time we all have to do what's best for us."
The relationship with the Tennessee staff is strong for Chandler. They spent plenty of quality time with the talented tailback and he has a good feeling about what they are trying to accomplish.
"I think it's a great place with great people," Chandler said. "That's something you always look for. I had a great time and the coaches really are respectable and I respect them. They are nice people. It's just a good environment all around."
Their message is pretty simple for Chandler. They need running backs and he is right at the top of the wish list. The chance to play early and often will be available in the Fall of 2017.
"That's attractive," Chandler said. "They offer me the chance to play early, but they also offer me a great education and where I would fit in. I feel like I fit in their style of offense. I was looking at it and they get the ball like 60% of the time and that's good for me being a running back. We run some of the same stuff with my high school team. That would possibly be a quick transition."
And driving home that point is running backs coach Robert Gillespie who made the Montgomery Bell Academy product a priority from the day he stepped foot on campus as a prospect.
"Coach Gillespie is really down to earth and he tells you how it is," Chandler said. "We have a built a pretty good relationship and he's just a great guy. A guy I like being around. I like how he coaches and what he brings to the table. I talk to Alvin and Jalen about what to expect and what it's like. I also have friends that go there and they tell me it's a great place to be."
"Right now I don't even know if I'm going to end it early or take it to February," Chandler said. "I just want to find the right fit. I think for me academics, coaching and playing time are all a big factors."
It's well known that Chandler's father played at Ole Miss. Some think the Rebels have the inside track, but he doesn't believe that to be the case.
"I think that's overblown," Chandler said. "Yeah, my dad went to Ole Miss, but he wants me to do what's best for me. He is totally open about every possibility. He just tells me to find the right fit and just focus on making the best decision possible."
