'17 WV OT Riley Locklear (UT signee)

This. I would be willing to take a chance on him as a 1st time OC, because he's an elite recruiter. He will be even better if he's selling to recruits that he's the one calling the shots on O.

He also has the personality kids like. Kids want to play for him and do well for him. I'd prefer Butch go outside and find an experienced replacement, but past history tells me he will likely promote from within. RG is the no brainer choice in that case IMO.

I wonder if Debord is grooming him to take over. I know RG was a highly sought after commodity this past offseason, hence the assistant HC title and pay raise (he deserves it too). Maybe that's the other way Butch kept him was by promising him the OC position when Debord retires.

“He’s kind of green, but he’s so athletic,” [Spring Valley OL coach Brent] Terry said. “He’s a strong kid. He learns very quickly. He’s a fiery player. He definitely has a mean streak. … He’s got great feet.

“He’s got a great wingspan, really long arms. Really strong hands. He probably has the best arm on the team. He can throw a football like nobody’s business.”

...“Honestly, he’s still a little green with his (technique),” Terry said. “He’s not the best technician you’re ever going to see. He’ll admit that. I’ll admit that as his coach. But his potential, I think that’s what Coach Mahoney really sees in him. He’s potentially a really great offensive lineman. His room for growth is off the charts.”

Nice article on Locklear.

Each time Locklear takes the gridiron for Spring Valley High, the Huntington, W. Va., native pays homage to the 75 victims killed in the tragic 1970 plane crash involving the Marshal University football team.

“Around here, to wear No. 75 is a privilege,” Locklear said.

“It has meaning, especially in my community.”

The deadly accident was famously depicted in the film We Are Marshall and Locklear hopes to continue representing his hometown at Tennessee.

“It’s special,” the 6-foot-5, 295-pound right tackle said.

“My brother (Alex) wore 75 in high school and now he’s at Marshall. He might get to wear that jersey number here pretty soon. That’s definitely the number that I’d like to have at (Tennessee).

Jesse Simonton: Tennessee's 2017 OT commit officially allowed to early enroll. Told me he's "very blessed" by school board decision.

Thank you! Very honored to have been approved as Wayne County's first ever early graduating senior.

Locklear was at Bristol...

"The way college football payed respect to our military was awesome! My mom loved the pregame and the halftime show. My friends, my girlfriend and I all talked about it on the way home and today for a little bit, too. We know it's a once in a lifetime kind of event."

Riley Locklear

Butch and the University must have worked the superintendent up pretty good, made some donations or something lol.
Good news, actually super duper news. Need all the OL commits in early

Bumped to a 5.8 4 star on Rivals.

Locklear took some big steps in his development this season. The Tennessee commit is quicker getting off the ball and does a good job getting to the second level and delivering big time blocks. Locklear is a road grader up front and does a good job opening massive holes for his running backs.

Glad to see a WV kid committed to Tennessee! Not too many D1 athletes come out of here, let alone plays for the Vols!

"Thursday Mahoney and Jones will be in West Virginia where they will visit with newly ranked 4-star and Vol commitment Riley Locklear."

I remember Keith Jeter out of Weirton, but I think he was dismissed with the big LB out of middle TN for that aggravated sexual battery accusation. The LB went on to be All-SEC at Ole Miss. Dewayne...

I think Jeter ran about a 4.9.
