'17 WV OT Riley Locklear (UT signee)

Most realistic starting line left to right imo is: Richmond, Robertson, Thomas, Jones, Kendrick.

Backup imo is: Kendrick, Smith, Jones, Boulware, Hall.

Never look forward to it, but injuries will sort out the depth chart. Happens every year. The good thing is that we're a really solid 2-deep now on the OL with Richmond, Kendrick, Hall, & Tatum at OT, Robertson, Jones, Boulware, & Smith at OG, and Thomas & R.Johnson at C.

Oh my, I agree with D4H.

Good Strength/Conditioning program will keep our O-line healthy and make them better next year. Consider this; Kendrick, Coleman, and Hall all played injured this season. In 2015-2016 season Coleman was our best lineman by far(which is why he was on the preseason Remington award watch list). He played most the season with two bum ankles. Kendrick played a lot of the season on an ankle he is having surgery on. Hall was never the same after the knee injury. Factor in health and everything and I think this is the O-line.
LT-Richmond
LG-Robertson
C-Thomas
RG-Jones
RT-Hall/Smith(depending on how Hall progresses in spring and fall)

Can forget guys like Boulware, Kendrick, etc. Good depth, so all we need is good health.

With Kendrick having surgery, surely Hall gets the start at RT if he's healthy, right?

I don't get the obsession with Richmond alot of you have. I know he's a 5 star. And I know its possible he improves immensely this off-season and looks like a SEC caliber LT next fall. But he showed nothing last year to warrant a starting spot ahead of Kendrick going into next season. IMO he should be the backup.

Here is how I think the o-line rotation shakes out:

LT - Kendrick/Richmond
LG - Robertson/Boulware
C - Thomas/ Locklear
RG - Smith/Jones
RT - Hall/Tatum

Pretty good 2-deep IMO. Hall and Smith could flip-flop positions depending on how good Trey Smith is off the bat. We could try to redshirt Tatum again this year so that develops into our LT of the future.

When Cade Mays gets here in 2018, I believe the o-line goes from a weakness to a strength at the University of Tennessee.

I believe Mays is really going to be good but you guys already declaring him a stud starter as a freshman need to pull back a little. Same things said about Khalil before he came. It's a big step up from high school.

Trey Smith isn't showing up 50 lbs out of shape like Kahlil.

I was more impressed with him at the Under Armor All-American game this year than I was with Kahlil at the Army All-American two year ago. He looks ready to play right now.

In fact he looks better than Robertson and Weisman already. And they started at guard for us last year.

Thanks. Been a Vols fan since I was a kid and having a local kid, and potentially a couple more local kids, going to Tennessee is great.

What part of WV? We live in Mineral Wells, just south of Parkersburg.
I agree, it's great to see some talent coming out of this state. I think it will only get better in the years to come.

Every stinkin' year....someone has a Freshman in the starting line up ahead of someone who doesn't need to be replaced. Trey Smith is not starting ahead of Jack Jones. It's not happening.

No

Just stop it

While trying to predict much of anything in CFB is an exercise in futility, trying to predict how our OL will play is just impossible. Even Phil Steele thought we would have our best OL of the decade going into this year and well, yeah. If there's one position group I'm not going to form expectations for it's the OL.

Baldbiker, I respect you and your postings ... but some years things like that sure do happen. We have several guys that can play guard ... and a couple of them could also be moved to center. So ... we'll just see how it plays out. :hi:

I don't like making predictions but I'd be shocked if Trey doesn't start this year. He's as ready as they come.
