"Been at Rivals camp and on road all day, but caught up with the Cal quarterback commit a short while ago.
He left Knox around 9-10 this morning. Despite scuttle otherwise, he has not committed to Tennessee. He had an outstanding visit, almost information overload with everything thrown at him. He had some good, candid convos with the coaches about spots and the Penix commitment. Martinez will give the trip some time to marinate and talk to some folks close to him before making any final decision one way or another. Full story in a.m."

I think we missed the boat. Hope I'm wrong, because I'm not real high on the other guy. I'm not going to name him, because I don't like criticizing current commits. I hope he improves a lot.

Missed the boat? This kid and his father just literally flew from California to Knoxville for two days and then flew back to California today. How is that missing the boat?
I think he wants to be a Vol despite Penix, despite any distance issues, etc. But he is obviously a grounded young man, and him not commiting now could be better in the long run. He didn't make a hasty commitment this weekend. If he does decide to commit to UT, whether it be in a 6-7 days or 6-7 months, if he commits at a later date it is because he and his family discussed his options and they are satisfied UT is the best place for him. I would feel a lot more comfortable about that commitment sticking than an on the spot commitment and then have to worry for the next 9 months about a kid from Cali sticking with his commitment.
