I think it all comes down to what he's being told by the staff as to how bad they really want him as to if he is actually #1 on the board. Just my opinion

Or the staff may switch Penix to WR considering he's played that position most of his junior year. Honestly, I think that's what he's best suited for. Similar to Jennings in a way. That way, they can still get Martinez imo.

I really just don't believe it's a one or the other situation. Not saying we get Martinez but I don't think us getting Penix eliminates him

Martinez knows he's going to have to battle, considering how big of a program Tennessee is, he's likely a bit surprised he's not looking at battling a Lawrence, Jones, Fields, or any of the kids from the 2017 class who were more highly touted than McBride. If Penix is the other QB in this class, Martinez, I imagine, sees the opportunity as a great one...better than he'd probably imagine at a place like Tennessee. If he wants to be a Vol the Penix commitment takes all the mystery out of who else we may take, he knows his competition, I think he'd see it as a positive.

Martinez is my fave of the two. I am curious to see Penix SR year though as in seeing some of his camp stuff this spring it looks like he may have straightened some of the funk out. Looks much smoother at the Rivals Camp that he won MVP over Gatewood and Milton
