Butch screwed us over by using Martinezs official visit so early
"It was an awesome visit," Martinez said. "It's a great place and I met some great people this weekend. I have been on the phone with a coach that is really a mentor to me and I was telling him how great the visit was."
The Nebraska staff made no bones about the importance of Martinez to their 2018 class. Martinez sees the fit and the possibilities that really go hand in hand with him signing in December and enrolling in January.
"I am a great fit for the offense and there is a great opportunity here," Martinez said. "They were very clear that I am a top target and they want a trigger man in the class. Being able to get here in January, and with the Nebraska staff showing they will play a young quarterback, is a great opportunity."
The Huskers weren't able to flip Martinez this weekend, but it's clear that they have him thinking a lot about what he just saw this weekend. Tennessee isn't going away quietly though and will be back in-home with Martinez later this week.
"I didn't commit, but I will take a week or so and really think things through. I have spoken with the Tennessee staff a little bit. They didn't want to bother me while I was on this trip. I think that they will be in-home with me later this week."
"I don't think that the Nebraska staff will be able to do an in-home with me this week. They already have and they are supposed to be back in Florida coaching this week for the UCF bowl game."
It's routine to ask a recruit to rate a visit, but Martinez wasn't wiling to take the bait. He wasn't comfortable doing a grade on the visit, but it's clear that he enjoyed his time in Nebraska.
"It was a great visit and I am just not comfortable assigning it a grade. This is a great place and there are some special people here. If there could have been anything better, it may have been a game weekend or something to see like that. That's it."
Martinez sat out his senior year after recovering from shoulder surgery to repair a torn labrum.
Was told Tennessee (likely Pruitt and Helton) will be out to see the 4-star quarterback early this week. The Vols have some real work to do here, IMO. By all accounts, Martinez had an excellent visit at Nebraska and has connected quickly with the new coaching staff.
Through all the uncertainty surrounding the Tennessee coach search, four-star quarterback Adrian Martinez remained committed.
The Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West entertained other schools and landed new offers and this past weekend he took an official to Nebraska. Martinez met with coach Scott Frost, talked with some players and got a better feel for Lincoln. It was an excellent and valuable trip as his recruitment continues.
I had a great time on my Nebraska visit and really enjoyed being around the people involved in the program, Martinez said. Coach Frost is a genuine, real down-to-earth guy who is a proven big-time coach. The rest of the staff was awesome. It seems like they have a great group of men who love coaching with each other.
For a few weeks, the four-star quarterback has been trying to figure out an official visit to Missouri but it looks like that probably wont happen now especially since assistant coach Josh Heupel took the UCF job.
It could be about time for Martinez, who had been previously committed to Cal, to figure out exactly what hes going to do with his recruitment - stick with the Volunteers and new coach Jeremy Pruitt or possibly flip to Nebraska after his trip there.
In the last few days, Martinez has also talked with the new Tennessee staff. Soon enough, a final decision could be made.
I plan to evaluate everything this upcoming week, Martinez said. I talked with (Tennessee assistant) coach (Tyson) Helton as well and they love my skill set. The message really is they want me and cant wait to coach me.
