The old "always a bridesmaid but never a bride" situation. Yeah it stinks
I wouldn't be too disappointed. Martinez has the potential to be as good as any of them. ESPN has him rated as the 4th best QB after Fields, Lawrence, and Emory Jones. And in the top 35 overall in the country.
For our system, I would only take Fields over Martinez. We'll be fine at QB going forward. Dormady, Guarantano, and Martinez is a nice trio.
welcome, post more. don't let the negas get you down.
The negas; star gazers; film watchers; ex players; coach wanna bes, arm chair QBs, RBs, DB (fill in the blank); and any other opinionated member of the circular firing squad that disagree on most topics during the off season to break up the monotony. Otherwise feel free to share...
And the trolls...real or imagined.
While Martinez does rank up there with these guys talent wise, the advantage that he may have is that "California cool". It's something that we have seen here before at UT at the QB position. If this kid has it combined with his God given natural abilities, we could be in for some special times on the hill.
callahanNo, he won't be back on the field that soon. Martinez hasn't even started his throwing program yet —*he initially was hoping to do that sometime this month, but that now has been pushed back to early September or so — and there's a real chance he won't even play this season. He's working out with the goal and mindset that he could be back on the field as early as October, but he's also trying to play it safe and not risk coming back too soon since he'll be enrolling at Tennessee in January.
We'll actually have a full update on Martinez in a couple days with the latest on his recovery and more.
