Chryst was 11-2 as a starter. If that's "mediocre to bad" and JG is better we're in great shape.

Despite that record, Stanford was eager to go to a younger guy. And Stanford fans are glad he's gone.

I personally hope its JG because I think that bodes well for the team in the long run. But I think both play this year regardless who gets the initial week 1 nod.

JG winning the job would be huge for the program. The more snaps he gets in games the better he’s going to get

He wasn’t the reason they went 11-2. Plus they didn’t fight to keep him there and had walk ons playing QB this spring. Not really something that inspires confidence

How is it a myth? JG has 3 years left after this season. If he’s good it is better for the long run

It's a myth because of the hope you guys are projecting onto him. He sucked last year and a sucky team. Horrible decisions, couldn't run, bad passer. Blame everything around him as much as you want (there's plenty bro go around) but at the end of the day he couldn't lead a scoring drive against USCe or Kentucky. Will he improve? Hell yes he will improve, but I doubt he will improve in the capacity you think he will. He needs a lot of help. I think Helton is the one to help him most, but he needs a lot more than a summer to be better than he was last year.

If Brandon Johnson catches the dime JG threw to him we beat SC

The whole theybhad walk on in spring reasoning for Chryst not being good is weak. Why would he stay for spring when Costello and Mills were going to be back this fall? Shaw already said Costello was starter so he decidied to go somewhere where he may actually start in fall. It made zero sense for him to stay.

If he were good he could have held onto the job or taken it. He was so bad Shaw already knew that he had no chance of reclaiming it

Still better for the long run. Chryst is gone after this year. I would also argue he did lead a scoring drive against SC but BJ couldn’t haul it in. Pass was perfect.

Stanford was 11-2...Chryst was the definition of mediocre. They didn't win because of him. Of course the best that could be said of him is that they didn't lose because of him either.

Lol dime.... Yes Johnson should've caught that, but don't you leave out the 3 drives that started within the 50 and barely went into field goal range
Play calling in that game was terrible. Took Muschamp a half to key in on Butch’s pathetic offense (just like he always has). Coach with a pair and your players will play with a pair. Coach scared and the players will play scared. I’m ready to see JG with a coaching staff that will put him in position to succeed. I still don’t get the hate that he gets. He was thrown into a terrible situation and did decently well for his first time playing. Dobbs looked like trash his first few games too

everything that was wrong with him is teachable. it's still up to him to get better. i don't think anyone is projecting anything on him.

the statement about better for the future is about the math more than anything else.

if Chryst comes in here and is night and day better than JG, and wins the job in a landslide, well, you only get Chryst for a year.

JG likely isn't an option after this year cause he IS that bad or he transfers. so you're looking at a roster with a RS freshman in Shrout, Mcbride, incoming Fr Mauer.

i think it's safe to say that it would be best for the program if JG does improve and does beat out Chryst, you at least have qb answered for 18 and 19 and buy yourself time to recruit and to continue to devleop QB's' on the roster.

Edit: if Chrys is THAT much better than JG, and JG isn't an option going forward, then we'll probably be looking for another grad transfer QB next year as well. i don't think Pruitt and co want to continue to go that route and have to use up roster spots in that way.

Lol no Costello has more yrs of eligibility remaining and was the starter to end the season. If your about even talent wise the younger guy gets the job unless Butch jones is coaching. Shaw even said Chryst is too good a QB to be a backup when he can start elsewhere his final yr. your love for JG blinds you a bit. I want JG to win but my goodness man
