Obviously the coaches weren't confident in JG by watching how he performed last year. I don't care how bad your team is around you, if you come out of highschool highly touted like JG was....you need to show better results than that garbage last year.

I’m not sure anyone necessarily just loves Chryst. He just might be the better of 2 not so great options, time will tell.

We should know pretty soon into fall camp. I think coaches are looking for someone who will just manage the game and not lose games for us. Both guys are capable of that this year imo

Stanford was 11-2...Chryst was the definition of mediocre. They didn't win because of him. Of course the best that could be said of him is that they didn't lose because of him either.

That’s definitely a take. Another one is he led his team to a W, and the defense did what they were supposed to. He doesn’t need to put up great numbers if everyone else does their job, just don’t help the other team.

I think it’s due to JG being highly rated out of HS and was suppose to be the guy after Dobbs, so fans want him to succeed. Me included.

I don’t think anybody here hates Chryst. But he’s put nothing on tape thus far in his career to indicate he’ll ever be much more than a game manager on a consistent basis.

A game manager might be all we need this year, so that’s fine. But if JG can’t beat out Chryst, then he should transfer because he’ll never be the guy for us and we’re going to be debating Shrout vs Maurer leading up to 2019, which isn’t exactly ideal.

I dont think chryst is a bum i just think JG wins this thing and shows out. I do believe Chryst pushes JG to be the best he can be because he knows Chryst is on his heels vying for the starting job

I've defended JG plenty over the last couple years. Tonight I quoted a guy who said Chryst was "mediocre to bad" and I think that's factually false. I said so and here come the KC haters to prove me wrong with opinions. And that's cool, I guess. But the guy is on OUR side now. Maybe we should let him put on some pads and compete this fall before deciding his fate? Same with JG. May the best QB win the job. Fact is, we're very likely going to need both to play this fall.

Look at the teams he beat, how he played in those games, and what he was surrounded with and there's no way to come away too impressed much other than Chryst's size, ability to run deceptively well when healthy, and manage a game when his opponent is outgunned. The whole 11-2 thing is the biggest pot of fool's gold on VN right now.

Here's why:

1. In 2 of those wins he's getting credit, UCLA in 2017 and UNC in 2016, he played like a quarter in each game. Sure he started and Stanford won, but other QBs played the majority of those games. I'm not sure why he gets credit for beating UCLA when he only threw 3 passes or UNC when he only threw 6.


So now he's down to 9-2 and doesn't have a bowl win.


2. Of those games he started, 7 teams had losing records. So he's 2-2 against winning teams, including a loss to SDSU. Those 5 games he started and finished in 2016 that he won? Combined record of 19-41. Combined record of the opponents he beat in 2017? 16-34. And 1-11 Oregon State was almost a loss because of how badly Chryst struggled in that one.





So basically, Chryst has started and finished 4 games against opponents worth a damn. He won two of them: a 7-6 Utah and 7-6 Oregon in 2017. The word impressive is relative and all, but given what Chryst was surrounded with neither of those wins really move the needle for me.




I think Chryst can be a fine QB for us this year if Pruitt gets the defense going again and we're able to get a run game going so that we don't have to ask Chryst to do too much. A game manager might end up being just what we need if we're gonna try to play defense and ball control. But anybody expecting him to come in and be a guy who can win games for us with his arm aren't really basing those expectations on anything he's shown in his career thus far.
