'18 FL CB Jordan Miner

I'm with you completely on this, and I guess I am at fault for derailing this thread.

I initially said I wasn't sold on Gaulden as a 3-down difference maker, but that could also be a product of scheme and a number of other variables. He is a damn good pure football player, I never disputed this. I just wonder he's playing not just out of position, but in a position that requires an extremely rare skill set.

We asked and expect him as a 180 lb. DB to play the run like an outside backer and cover SEC slot receivers and tight ends in space. He also was sent on horribly predictable blitz packages where he never got home. He would be at his best in the nickel role against spread teams with a running QB, ie Va Tech, or on the back end at safety where he can read and react more and play down hill. He struggled with man coverage on intermediate routes, but did a good job preventing chunk plays.

Much better explanation than my "he had problems" lol.

Thanks that's exactly what was getting at, in a much more general way 👍

At cornerback, Jordan Miner, who we previously said was down to UT and PSU, is set to make his choice on July 6. Miner intends to call each school next Thursday before his decision. This one has been all over the map lately. Tennessee felt good about its chances about a week ago, but Miner did not commit anywhere. Lately, intel suggests he’s headed to PSU, once again reshuffling UT’s cornerback board.

Gaulden flat out saved our a$$es in several games last year. Most of the time it was when Dk jr was being pancaked and jumper was shooting the wrong gap.

Honestly part of me will always wonder how Gaulden would've faired if we'd played him at safety. If we really do see more 4-3 looks this year, I hope he gets some looks there.

I'm not sure we were utilizing him all that well last year, especially with some of the SUPER obvious blitzes we sent him on.

PSU is like 43 to 57 percent girl to guy ratio with most of the girls being chunky liberals. At least they keep you warm in the winter though.

Personally, I've never been that cold.

Drunk? Yea.. Cold? Nope...

Not disguising blitzes are wastes of time. They'll never hit home if they can see them a mile away. I don't get it especially seeing the athleticism we have available on the blitzes.

I think we should start Warrior and Gaulden at safety. Then bring in Osborne at the nickel. With Martin and Wiggins outside. Abernathy and TKjr would allow for flex options with Gaulden seeing he can also be effective in man coverage situations.

TK and Warrior Gaulden at Nickel/Flex options. TK has been doing it much longer and is legit.

That would be a really athletic saftey tandem right there .

Agreed, I would love to see

DE Taylor
DT Kmac
DT Vickers
DE Kongbo
LB DKJr
LB Bituli
LB Smith
CB Martin
S Warrior
S Gaulden
CB Wiggins

That is a big and athletic starting 11. Hopefully we play a lot more base 4-3

No Tuttle at DT?

I'm not expecting much of Tuttle at all this year or at least the start of the year. Two years of not being able to train because of major leg injuries is a killer.
He has to be far behind physically.

If that's true we are one injury away at DT from being back where we were late last year

He didn't look far behind at all...especially in the VT game.
