I wouldn't call him consistent. His tackling was flat out awful at times. He tackles like a cover CB back there at safety.
Hence the thought of him moving back outside. Not that I am convinced it is the answer, just surprised it hasnt been discussed given Warrior's breakout spring and our problems at corner.
Hopefully we get 2015 Wiggins and Martin puts it together next year. I expect LaBruzza to make some noise next year and be our #1 in 2018.
I like Osborne, Labruzza and Bailey among the young CBs. Buchanan has some skills too. Just has to grow as a player. Warren is the man for them though. He teaches and relates well which is what that group needs.
I am curious to see how Baylen bounces back this year. The NFL pedigree and rave reviews from last fall couldn't have been further from the player we saw on the field when his number was called. He didn't look like he belonged last year, and I hope thats youth not ability. Says a lot they stuck with him over Osborne, although Osborne flashed more in limited opportunities.
Not sold on Gaulden as a 3-down difference maker either. Almost seemed like the guy coaches divided on scheme compromised with.
We wound up having to play several guys last year that probably never would have seen as much time as they did except for the injuries.
I think Abernathy played well early on and faded as the season went on.
Osbourne and buchannon were clearly not ready. Martin had issues between the ears, and Mosley just isn't very good.
I did expect more from gaulden. But that 4-2-5 look asked him to do a lot more than being a nickel in situational football.
If Martin gets right in the head, he and Wiggins can have an impact. Gaulden can be effective in a true nickel.
With that experience, improved coaching, and better circumstances from a scheme standpoint (back to a 4-3), there is a case to be made for improvement.
That and we really should be pretty darn good at safety, which can help cover up some deficiencies too...
And if that can happen, it continues to allow those younger guys to continue to develop, and not have to be significant contributors right away.
I just thought he'd of been more of an impact. His absence the year before was fairly noticeable, his return wasn't... Flashed at times, disappeared others.
And don't get me wrong, I think running that 4-2-5 has something to do with it as well.
He had to be a linebacker at times and that wasn't always a great matchup...
Not trying to bag on the guy.
I just trying to see what do you want him to do? He made damn near every play he was supposed to. And that was with a lot of bad fits and poor tackling around him. I hope our secondary takes note. And the Florida game he dominated Brandon Powell who killed us the year before. He made big plays in the Georgia game. Actually kinda dominated for us in that one. I'm trying to figure all this out.
