'18 FL CB Jordan Miner

Going to head over to the Gaulden thread to see if I can get any info on Miner's recruitment.

I read the last three pages and suddenly realized I was in the RF and not the FF.

The dead give away was the lack of trolling and presence of coherent banter.

I just trying to see what do you want him to do? He made damn near every play he was supposed to. And that was with a lot of bad fits and poor tackling around him. I hope our secondary takes note. And the Florida game he dominated Brandon Powell who killed us the year before. He made big plays in the Georgia game. Actually kinda dominated for us in that one. I'm trying to figure all this out.

there's nothing to figure out. i think Gaulden at times had problems....i don't necessarily think it's all on him, as stated, i think the 4-2-5 was a large part of it.

i like Gaulden, i think he's a really good football player, and yes, he had flashes last year that reminded you why you missed him the year before, as you referenced. and there were other times you didn't notice him at all.

i think he has a real chance to have a great season this year.

Gaulden dropped a pick six against Vandy that might have changed the outcome of that game. Everyone makes mistakes, but some are bigger than others. He should still be a good player for us.

I asking what problems did he have? Like what do you want a nickel back to do with them running the ball straight up the middle? I'm trying to figure out what problems he had out. He had a good season. IMO Dropped one pick and had a PI call but how many plays do you expect him to make if team were just hitting us in the mouth and the LBs weren't doing a thing about it.

When the last time when a recruit was getting a lot Cb's to one school and didn't go there ?

Warrior got like 4 CB's to Auburn the night before NSD. Preston Williams didn't have any CB's to Tennessee when he committed. iirc Trevor Lawrence was mostly UGA CB' before he committed to Clemson. Lots of other too

Gaulden is a very good player. We had to play too much nickel and LB was not strong and DL was injured so had no real space eaters so was being run down our throats when in mickle and GAULDEN was having to almost play more like a LB which he isn't. Any mickle back in the country would've not looked good in our D by the end of the year. Dropped interception happens and is not indicative overall of him as a player. Other plays hurt us as well as that one in the Vandy game.

Mainly the reason of the Warrior CBs was because of his mid week visit and Auburn was in need of a Safety in that class . & those cbs for P Williams came after he committed Tennessee, he committed out the blue .

Zero CBs for auburn. CBs are more right than they are wrong

Martin sucks. Period

Wth? No he doesn't imho. Immensely talented, just needed more maturity last year and a coach who could teach him/sell him on better technique. He was obviously frustrated.....didn't mesh with CWM, like all our other DBs. By all accounts he's a good kid who just needs a little extra push and an infusion of confidence to help him reach/find his potential. Lotta kids do.

He just had an outstanding spring practice and seems emboldened and more bought in to Warren than he was Martinez. Let's don't give up on him just yet. I'm betting he's the starting CB opposite Wiggins this year, that he has a big senior season and that he's drafted next Spring. Jmo

I'm with you completely on this, and I guess I am at fault for derailing this thread.

I initially said I wasn't sold on Gaulden as a 3-down difference maker, but that could also be a product of scheme and a number of other variables. He is a damn good pure football player, I never disputed this. I just wonder he's playing not just out of position, but in a position that requires an extremely rare skill set.

We asked and expect him as a 180 lb. DB to play the run like an outside backer and cover SEC slot receivers and tight ends in space. He also was sent on horribly predictable blitz packages where he never got home. He would be at his best in the nickel role against spread teams with a running QB, ie Va Tech, or on the back end at safety where he can read and react more and play down hill. He struggled with man coverage on intermediate routes, but did a good job preventing chunk plays.
