ORLANDO, Fla. Four-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland backed off his commitment to Florida in November as the Gators were going through a coaching change. Florida new head coach, Dan Mullen, has been regular contact with the 6-foot, 195-pound prospect.
He texts me, Copeland said of Mullen. He hits me up every now and then, just good luck out here [at the Under Armour All-America game]. Thats all he would say.
Copeland went on to explain why Florida remains in the picture despite his decommitment.
Florida, its a great school to go to education-wise. Theyre trying to rebuild the program.
The Gators are in line to get Copelands final official visit before Februarys National Signing Day with trips to Alabama and Texas A&M schedule to come in the weeks prior. Is there significance to Florida getting the last trip?
That dont mean nothing, Copeland answered. I just set that up because Mullen had set that up with me. We just wanted to set that up, but it dont mean nothing.
Alabama will get the visit before Floridas. Copeland explained with Alabama remains a player in his recruitment.
Thats just Nick Saban. You just cant go wrong playing for him
He could use me right now on the field, because hes going to be losing at lot of depth.
Copelands lead recruiter for the longest time was Jeremy Pruitt, who is now Tennessees head coach. Does that hurt the Crimson Tides chances?
That dont hurt at all. Alabama is still going to be Alabama.
The Vols, who got a visit from Copeland in December, is now a player for the talented Sunshine State athlete.
Pruitt took that job. Pruitt has been recruiting me since freshman year. Him being the top dog at Tennessee now, the head coach, that will set high for Tennessee for me.
The industry-generated 247Sports Composite currently ranks Copeland as the nations No. 54 overall recruit in the 2018 class.
