they get paid a lot more than just tuition: room and board, food, equipment (clothing), tutors. and saying they aren't getting paid is disrespectful to the walk ons. who often do actually work, play football and go to school. oh the 85 players on the roster there is only about 20 any given year that are "worth" their price. they all bring value no doubt, but for what the school does most guys wouldn't have much of a market value to offset it. It gets a little more complicated for the future stars but ultimately there are very few players who actually earn it if we are considering it a job. also if it was a job we could fire them for not being good at their job.

Okay, put a yearly monetary sum on it. You think it approaches $100k? I don't, but if it did, remind me how many millions of dollars Butch makes a year in comparison? As for "being fired", isn't that what's basically happening to the ones who are "encouraged" to transfer?

It is often expanded to include anyone who even questions Butch. (Not everyone who questions is looking to see him fired.) I've seen many posters who act like Butch is a football god and go into fits over any little criticism. This board is bipolar.

You're right I guess. It is on the coaches for putting him out on the field when he sucks at playing football. I also already said that Martin is football dumb..he just is, but I don't know anything about the dudes intelligence otherwise, he may be a honor student for all I know.

Justin isn't Einstein but he can play football. In Janzcek scheme they played man up or zone never 8 yds off the ball til Shoop came. Offenses hv put up 500+ in 5 of the last 6 games. When a guy is playing off 8 yds and is told to bail out this can put him in compromising angles. Hell it happened with all the Dbs whether Cbs or S. Why would you play 8 yds deep against GT anyways?

That's one of my biggest concerns about the D. I just don't get playing that soft. That's what I said to my son, why is he bailing as soon as the ball is snapped??

If we are worried about what Horn "might read in this thread" then I think he would appreciate our resident coaching expert not dogging his future position coach and coordinator. Marin played a poor game Saturday, it was 1 game, but he was certainly not coached to play the way he did on Saturday. That is simply De doing what he does (1) dog the coaches (2) protect his failed opinions.

I apologize for calling Martin dumb as a brick, as I have stated already, I was talking about football intelligence, I do not apologize for calling him a horrid football player, to this point he has been a complete disaster at CB as a Vol. I sincerely hope he turns it completely around today, and plays up to the potential that the coaches, and our resident VN talent evaluators obviously see in him. If he does I will applaud him.

If not, why are you bringing that up when we're talking about secondary players. If anything those, "offenses hv put up 500+ in 5 of the last 6 games" have mostly been from an atrocious run defense.

I'm not the most fond of our staff, but grow up and stop trying to find wiggle room for any opportunity to bash our staff.

If your opinion was valued by others as much as you value it yourself, maybe you could COACH the Vols. Until then, focus on your camps, hair cuts, and grammar.

Boss always gets paid more. How many full time coaches? 8? I think we around 8 million total for them. 85 scholarship at your 100k number is 8.5 million.

How many are encouraged to leave bc of play? I don't think there are many here. They don't fit the culture, leave for playing time get busted for drugs, hate having to go to class etc.

Also if a player gets injured and can't play their scholarship is still honored. Redshirt, you are still on a full scholarship. Just look at the massive student loan debt hitting this country and tell me these players are getting short changed with a free ride.
