'18 GA CB Taiyon Palmer (NC State signee)

If you all continue to use the phrase "must get" the only thing that will be a must get is the disappointment you will have if we don't sign him. One player, with few very, very rare exceptions, does not make or break a class. It would sting to lost this kid to NC State, but I don't think anybody knows for sure what is happening. If we do lose him, it is still far from time to freak out.

This. We've signed a lot of these "must get" players like Justin Martin, etc. This is freaking 3 star CB that we're competing against damn the recruiting juggernaut NC State for. Griffin and the like are the must get cornerbacks that we need to land before turning the page and actually competing for the SEC. Pruitt has done a great job recruiting BUT he was really behind most teams that had two years to develop relationships and sell their programs.

He's actually a 4-star on 247, #200 prospect in the nation. Just picked up offers from UT, Clemson and Bama and all pushed for the OV last week and UT got it.

No clue why he's rated so low by Rivals (same with Eddie Smith). I think it's becoming pretty obvious though that Rivals is way behind the 8-ball compared to 247 when it comes to evaluating these kids throughout the process. I simply don't think they have the manpower that 247 does and they don't go nearly as much in depth with their evaluations as the process goes along. I never thought I'd say that as I've always been a Rivals guy but the last few years across the board they just seem way behind when it comes to evaluating guys and picking up on prospects who have developed and have had really good senior years.

It's been that way for probably a year now. 247 pulled a lot of national analysts, etc. over from other sites. It just so happens that UT's 247 affiliate has had some serious issues in that time compared to VQ, which has historically been very reliable. Therefore, people around here continue to side with VQ/Rivals for their recruiting info.

247 just seems to do a much better job of consistently evaluating prospects throughout the process. Rivals doesn't do that at all. They have a few rankings updates where they do everyone at once and that is it.

I've always been a VQ guy compared to UT's 247 site, but I'll give Callahan credit, he's been really good since Pruitt took over. Brent and Jesse IMO have been struggling.

Not sure about Callahan specifically but 247 owner was really excited when we hired Pruitt. He made the comment that he looked forward to 247 having the inside scoop to breaking news. So Shannon or someone must have a pretty strong relationship with Pruitt.

Kongbo pulls that crap he pulled last year with Pruitt he won’t crack the 2 deep

If we get legit talented SEC DEs in here, he won’t crack the 2 deep no matter what he does or doesn’t pull. He’s just not physically gifted enough to play at a high SEC level imo.

He was honestly a worse candidate than Schiano in my mind

It's so surreal to think about that coaching search. But almost hiring Toby Flenderson from NC State was the weirdest part of that whole fiasco.

Austin Smith? Do what?

I’ll give you Bituli, he showed some really good things last year, I think he’s gonna be really good.

But Austin Smith? Don’t know about Ignont, we saw nothing from/of him last year.

Austin Smith is extremely talented. He just hasn't been healthy.

I told you guys last year how special Bituli was. Austin Smith has similar talent.

Don't sleep on him.
