'18 GA QB Justin Fields

Honestly, I am not sure that it does. Nashvegas31 just posted a good thought in the Tee Higgins thread. He said that he read somewhere that Jake wanted to have an offense with a similar passing attack as Oregon, but Butch wanted to play power football and let him walk. It is almost like our offense is stuck between the power I and spread, and doesn't know which way to go. I'm just not that sure this philosophy changes due to a new QB.

Butch is correct that power football wins in the SEC. Oregon hasn't won anything with their philosophy. Kind of like Ole Miss. Sure, they have beaten Bama, but their running game is soft, and they won't be championship level that way. All that said, you still have to throw the ball around and have a competent passing attack. Bama usually has a nice mix.

If we lose this kid to either PSU or NWU, we've got major issues with the perception of our QB position.

I think there it's certainly some truth in that. But this is one of those non-standard cases where academics are carrying more weight in his decision than they normally do.

Pro style with some spread wrinkles is what wins, if you have the beasts in the trenches.

We need to get this kid in the fold soon. Will help with '18 recruiting and getting a difference maker at QB in that class is of monumental importance.

I will try to find his stats in the morning. Harrison was up 41-14 at half and I saw on Harrisons twitter page that Fields had a 59 yd td run to start the scoring.

We definitely need to get this kid. He may end up being the best in the bunch for '18 when its all said and done. I think our passing woes all start up front in the trenches and not at the QB position. I don't think Dobbs will ever be one to light it up passing week after week, but I do think he is capable of averaging 250-300 yards a game with reliable protection. Our line so far has been horrendous. They resemble our OL from two seasons ago and I think it is mostly mental. They haven't shown any nastiness so far. I hope this week we can get an early lead so that we can see some guys like Boulware, Moseley, and more Jack Jones. Also can't wait to get Chance Hall back.

Fields returned to Tennessee for the third time in less than two months to attend the Vols’ game Saturday against Ohio, and he said the visit turned out to be “kind of eye-opening” as he moves closer to making his choice.

“It was a great visit,” said Fields.

“I just looked at the offense a little bit more, and I got to see, really, how well I’d fit in there and what (offensive coordinator Mike) DeBord is doing with (quarterback) Josh Dobbs. And I feel like we kind of have the same attributes when playing quarterback.”

He said he liked what he saw from Tennessee’s offense.

“Some of the plays were exactly like some of my high-school plays, so that was pretty cool to see,” Fields said. “I was surprised by the turnout by the crowd. It’s a noon game. It’s not an SEC conference game. They played Ohio. But I was just surprised by how many people came out and supported them."

”“Me and Cade, we’ve got a text, and me and Alontae DM each other,” Fields said. “They just said Tennessee’s a great place, and they tell me how much the coaches talk about me. (Chandler and I) went to go watch Coach Jones’ show together, and we talked a little bit. It was cool to be around him, see Coach Jones.”

After visiting Tennessee a handful of times, Fields said he and his family like the Vols for a few reasons.

“Just the atmosphere, and, really, my parents like how close it is,” he said. “I like the coaches and just how well I fit into the offense. My cousin lives in Knoxville. He’s 28. He lives about 15 minutes away from the stadium. We usually see each other twice or three times every year, so we’re pretty close.”

Said he could decide in a day, a month, but hopes to decide by the end of October. It's basically down to UT, Penn St, and NW. North Carolina and the rape allegations have cause him to really cool on them.

In before someone calls us out for having a high school offense.

Fortenberry just said a lot of what Callahan did. He said we definitely helped ourselves.

I guess a truly top athlete can look at something not particularly great and see himself making it so.

I think we take two QBs this (18) class

I could see it. I REALLY don't want to believe the ship has sailed on Emory Jones, but....I know it ain't gonna happen deep down. Feel the same way about TL. Just not over the disappointment yet.

Unless Jones is an EE, its not over until 2018 NSD.

"Now having other schools to compare it to, the game day experience at Tennessee is special," Fields said. "We got to the parking lot about 10:30am. I rode to the stadium on a golf cart and while we were on the golf cart, I have to admit, I had goosebumps. Just riding through the sea of orange was an unbelievable experience."

"Seeing a game live and watching the offense execute, I think it seems to be a really good fit for my skill set," Fields explained.

"I got to talk to Coach Jones before the game and after the game. That was pretty exciting. It made me feel good that he wanted to talk to me before the game and not long after the game," Fields said. "I had a great time with the other coaches too. We spent some time together. I was able to meet their wives and family. We ate at Smokey's after the game."

"I have a sit down with my parents and go over the pros and cons of my options before I start ranking the schools," Fields said. "I want to make a decision soon. But, if that means making the wrong decision or one that I'm not sure of, then my parents and I will take as long as we need."
