'18 GA QB Justin Fields

They showed him on TV a few times, he sure seemed to be having a great time. We need to get him in the fold ASAP. I know he's already a 4-star but with the season he's having he's about to really blow up. Having a big-time QB in the fold early for '18 would pay massive dividends with that class.

Hopefully it would help you heal over the loss of Jones.

Now thats good stuff right there.

Quality programs offer quality players. Nothing new. But they aren't in the same caliber as Tennessee.

But we might want to throw some voodoo at Petrino's program and hope this Lamar Jackson train slows down. Every dual threat looks at those games and sees his own face playing in that offense. Jackson does this back to back to back and declares after next year, and a 2018 prospect has a possible immediate shot...lot to sell.

I could be wrong, but I don't see Petrino staying long. And I agree that Jackson is impressive at times, but I think all the Heisman talk is premature. He had some really bad games last year (as a freshman, I know). Playing against Clemson and others in the coming weeks should show a lot as to whether he/they are legit. I agree that immediate playing time could benefit them.

That buyout is a big poison pill. Not many programs would desire Petrino enough to fork out 10 mil. Also for all his success, he's a mediocre recruiter. His path has been to coach up lesser rated players and transfers, but he hasn't been able to stay at a stop long enough to counter that rep. I'd be more optimistic of Jackson coming back to earth against stiffer competition if one of his victims hadn't been FSU.

The thought crossed my mind, but I'm not completely convinced FSU has a stout defense this year. I think Jackson should absolutely be in the Heisman conversation at this point. But I've heard multiple times people say that he is the clear front-runner. And I would have to see more.

Petrino's buyout is big, but it's just through next year. He could ride the success of Jackson (et al.) and bolt after '17. Could you see him looking toward the NFL?

Need to see more? Jackson is the clear front runner to the Heisman and its not even close. McCaffery? He is trailing pretty far behind. Jackson is easily the most electric player in the country. At this point right now, there is no debate with the Heisman after what he did to FSU.

NFL? Ask Falcons fans on that one...kicked the tires and broke his nose. :).

Agreed. It doesn't mean much to this point. (Geno Smith, Kenny Hill, Leonard Fournette) There is a long way to go, but no one else is close right now.

With us missing on Lawrence and Jones, getting a commitment from Fields would help big time. Kid can compete for the QB job right away at UT. Hope he pulls the trigger.

The thing about Petrino's recruiting is he hasn't been at a big juggernaut recruiting school yet. I'm not saying if he were at a powerhouse school he would for sure recruit better but I think it would be a strong possibility.

There is a LONG way to go but at this point he is the CLEAR front-runner and it isn't even close. Doesn't mean it will play out that way.

And I could see Rich Kotite getting another NFL HC job before Petrino did.

Admittedly, I didn't watch the Louisville/FSU game. But FSU is giving up points and yards to every opponent thus far.

From what I've seen from Jackson this year, he can sling the ball well. But he's slinging it to wide-open guys. Can he thread it too? Will he continue to have success against good defenses, or will he turn out some bad performances reminiscent of last year? He very well could be the real deal, but for me, I need to see more. It just seems early to call someone who wasn't even in the conversation last year to be the front-runner this year after 4 games.

It will be interesting to watch Jackson and Watson in the same game this weekend.

Through 5 games Fields has completed 58 of 86 pass attempts (67.4%) for 1,042 yards & 10 TDs. He's also rushed 58 times for 453 yards (7.8 ypc) & 6 TDs.

You're confusing Heisman frontrunner status with NFL draft evaluation. With the lead and hype he's built, he can have a bad game or two against good competition and still win the award. Everyone else will have a bad game or more too. And he doesn't exactly face a litany of good defenses either, so who cares how wide open the WRs are or how well he throws a ball in traffic? The voters will see his highlights and his stats and vote for him.

Also, it's flawed logic to use performance last year for a yearly award.

So if the ballots had to be turned in today and you had a vote, are you saying you wouldn't vote for him? Because at this point, that's all we are talking about. That's what a front runner is.
