'18 GA QB Justin Fields

LOL. When you see how much better Dobbs is in the NFL than Clausen you'll realize how dumb this statement was.

Clausen played on arguably the most talented teams in Tennessee history during a time in which the SEC was less competitive than it is now. Dobbs played on a Tennessee program that was rebuilding in an SEC that is much stronger.

To even compare the two is laughable. Dobbs is world's better than Clausen.
lol you funny. You weren't born yet when Clausen played

Before Josh Dobbs we were praying to get into a bowl game. After Josh Dobbs we were ready to fire the coach for not getting the team into the Sugar Bowl or SEC Championship game.

It's undeniable he changed the program. We went from irrelevance in 2013 to being a preseason top 10 team in 2016 that was on college gameday and CBS almost every week. For good or bad we were the talk of college football the last 2 off-seasons and for the first half of last year.

Hold on brother. Aren't you the one constantly talking about all the NFL draft picks we have on the roster, 30 to 40 iirc? And now you wanna give one guy, one future late round draft pick with accuracy issues all the credit? How about Hurd (lol), Kamara, Thomas, Wolf, AK, Malone, JRM, Sutton, Barnett (never mind here, forgot you're not a fan), Berry, et al?

Look, Josh had his moments where he put us on his back, 3 maybe 4 games and he was very good many times, a lot of times pretty average, other times not so good at all. Hell, Josh was having a rough senior season until we got to the Tenn Tech game last year.

So it's much more accurate to say he did his part in helping bring Tennessee from a losing program to a good, solid, yet still underachieving program. Calling him a "program changer" is overstating it a good bit.

You proved you have no clue what you are talking about as soon as you said Dobbs was better than Vick. I love Dobbs as much as anyone, but that's just ridiculous.

Do I want Vick to walk my dog? No. But I sure as heck want 20-26 year old Vick QBing my football team.

I gotta ask what you are basing your opinion on. I am simply comparing what Vick achieved in college to what Dobbs achieved. I will grant that Vick only played 2 seasons at VT. In those 2 years he completed slightly more than 56% of his passes for 21 TD's and 12 INT's. He also ran for 1,216 yards and 17 TD's. Dobbs started for 2 full seasons and completed 61.3 % of his passes for 42 TD's and 17 INT's. He rushed for 1.502 yards and 23 TD's.

Looking strictly at the stats, it would appear that they make the case for Dobbs to be better. But, I also know that stats do not tell the whole story. Vick played for a VT squad that was consistently competing for conference and national championships. Dobbs was QB a team trying to rebuild from it's worst 7 year period in school history with an OL that was a sieve.

As for Vick QB'ing my team, if I could run a rush only offense, I might agree. But, if he had to throw the ball as much as Dobbs did, I want Dobbs throwing it. Vick had a much stronger throwing arm, but he was erratic as they come when he had to throw the ball. Hence the fact that over a 13 year pro career, he only surpassed 58% completion percentage 4 times.

He decommit from Penn State?

Nope. But I keep clicking on this continually bumped thread thinking I'll read something good like he's decommitted or he's visiting UT, but nope. All I'm seeing is an idiotic argument about whether or not Dobbs was a program changer. Take it somewhere else.

Good luck. 🍀

Too much sense, sorry.

How would better talent around him in the NFL prove he was good here?

If you dominate a sport at it's highest level, it proves that something was wrong with those around you at a lower level. Dobbs was held back by Butch Jones, a bad o-line, and a weak WR corp at Tennessee.

I was wrong about those of the offensive line and at WR. We had no good NFL talent at those positions.

Or maybe you just have guys that make you look better by making plays the average college receiver can't? I like Dobbs, but let's be honest and admit he missed on A LOT of throws in his career.

Are you related to Dobbs?

Geez, that guy is obsessed. Dobbs is good, but no where near the top of the list on all-time UT QBs.

His numbers prove you and the reat of the haters are fos. How many of your hero qbs that are better were drafted? Dobbs was surrounded by mediocrity from the top down, the NFL scouts have acknowledged this numerous times.

So either you think Dobbs is the second coming of Peyton or you are a hater. This board can be so childish sometimes.

So do many other QBs. You just seem to focus on Josh because he's not perfect.

This has been my issue with yall from the beginning. Your holding Dobbs to a standard no other QB is held to. Did he miss some throws? Yes. But so have many other QBs and people don't throw it out there everytime they miss.

Some QBs are just held to different standards.

When I think of a program-changing QB, I think of more than someone who couldn't even win his division. Dobbs was an above average QB, but he didn't change our program. Deshaun Watson changed Clemson's program. Johnny Manziel changed A&M's program. Josh Dobbs "changed" Tennessee from a 7-6 team to a 9-4 team. Not a huge accomplishment. That isn't to say we won't miss him this season, or that he didn't accomplish a lot statistically. I just don't see him as a "program changer", but maybe that term is subjective/relative.
No disrespect but you really don't think he helped change the program ? It wasn't said he changed Tennessee into a NC contender, but he made more out of nothing than anyone I can remember. The university and his coach did him no favors on the field. No true qb coach, below average line and receiver play.

This is what they can't see now. But when Dobbs becomes a dominant pro they will realize. At least I hope they do.
