'18 GA QB Justin Fields

Penn state did what they had to do on the field this year and we didn't. QB'S rarely flip super late in the cycle. I'd say if he doesnt decommit before the end of summer then he won't. You never know though

I think he might not end up playing football because he's a better baseball player and has a legitimate shot of getting drafted first round of the MLB draft.

***Penn State commit Justin Fields certainly stated his case as one who should be considered America’s No. 1 ranked dual-threat quarterback during this event. The 6-foot-3, 221-pound Fields tested very well including a 4.51 laser-timed 40-yard dash and a 4.16 shuttle. He was one of the top two quarterbacks during drills, showcasing a strong, accurate arm and he’s comfortable throwing on the move. Nobody quarterback was better during 1-on-1s and half-skelly. Fields is one of the bell-cows of a Nittany Lions class that 247Sports ranks No. 1. He checks in as the No. 3 dual-threat passer, but that will certainly be reconsidered in the very near future. Fields left with quarterback MVP honors and an invite to the Elite 11 finals in June.

Alright Canales, time to earn that promotion

You would think Fields could see what Dobbs did with this offense this past year and think he could do even better, especially since we have a QB coach now that is at worst pretty good. When has Franklin ever had a QB do much of anything? What did he do with Hackenburg?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the distance becomes too much of a factor to overcome. Still think he ends up in Knoxville or Athens.

I see more Brent Hundley than Josh Dobbs in this kid. He can be a good college QB and potential NFL draft pick. But I don't see program changer like we had with Josh Dobbs and we have right now with Jarrett Guarantano.

Hopefully we can find that next great QB somewhere in this class.

Totally agree with the Hundley comparison. Seen this kid live on a couple occasions. I personally like Martinez better than Fields.

Asked someone (that would know) at lunch yesterday about Fields. He said his recruiting is still blowing up even tho his ranking has already skyrocketed. Even more schools have tried to get in the door. He says he is a yes sir kind of guy and the popularity (to this point anyway) has not given him the big head and he's humble for the opportunity.

THAT said, he said he'd be surprised if he stayed committed to PSU. Thinks he stays in the south. Some have mentioned baseball as his path, IF he is an EE (which is the plan), he will never know about baseball as they can't draft him as he will be enrolled in college.

Summer visits will be HUGE here after baseball season.

Josh Dobbs did change our program for the better. That's undeniable. He did some incredible things. With better defensive play. We could have won big.
This all day. In hindsight, the 2015 team could have won big if butch had clutch bone in his body

Before Josh Dobbs we were praying to get into a bowl game. After Josh Dobbs we were ready to fire the coach for not getting the team into the Sugar Bowl or SEC Championship game.

It's undeniable he changed the program. We went from irrelevance in 2013 to being a preseason top 10 team in 2016 that was on college gameday and CBS almost every week. For good or bad we were the talk of college football the last 2 off-seasons and for the first half of last year.

When I think of a program-changing QB, I think of more than someone who couldn't even win his division. Dobbs was an above average QB, but he didn't change our program. Deshaun Watson changed Clemson's program. Johnny Manziel changed A&M's program. Josh Dobbs "changed" Tennessee from a 7-6 team to a 9-4 team. Not a huge accomplishment. That isn't to say we won't miss him this season, or that he didn't accomplish a lot statistically. I just don't see him as a "program changer", but maybe that term is subjective/relative.
