There is a lot of inane chatter in here. It is this simple: if Fields wants to come to Tennessee, Tennessee should, and will, take him. He is very good. He also may he immediately eligible because of the racist treatment from a fellow athlete at UGA.
If he’s eligible immediately, he will be a true sophomore this year, which means Harrison Bailey would be a true freshman when Fields is a true junior (read as draft eligible). Alternatively, Bailey would be a true freshman when Fields is a redshirt sophomore (read as draft eligible).
In either event, that is ideal spacing between two elite QBs as opposed to the single class difference between Fields and Jake Fromm. While I think his commitment sticks, nothing guarantees Bailey enrolls at UT despite his verbal commitment and there is also no guarantee that he lives up to his billing whereas there has been at least some evidence that Fields will live up to his billing.
And, I am a supporter of Guarantano. I think he played well under the circumstances (read as porous OL and WRs who did not create a lot of separation), but there are legit criticisms about his play (read as he did a poor job recognizing pressures and coverage and helping his OL help him). So, there’s no guarantee Fields would beat out Guarantano. Still, this is big boy football and you always land a player like Fields if you can and figure out the problems later.
