'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

Six month old quote from Lawrence when asked if his childhood allegiance to Tennessee will play a factor when he chooses a school.

“That doesn’t really affect me at all. I’m going to go to the school where I fit in best and where I can be successful.” --Trevor Lawrence

Japs Bomb Pearl Harbor! But thanks for the 6-month old news.

I think I am getting closer to a decision, I go to Clemson next week and then there is the dead period, so I will have time to think more then and we will see after that,” Lawrence said.-247

"Trevor Lawrence about growing up a Tennessee fan but having to turn that into a business decision. Right now his only visit is planned to Clemson, but he said he could get up to Tennessee later this summer. There's a lot of Georgia/Florida/Clemson talk around him right now. I think Tennessee maybe isn't in this one as much as they once were."

Put the full court press on Jones and do what it takes to keep him from OSU. He fits our offense better anyone and no I'm not saying that now because things aren't looking good with Lawrence. I've always said it.

Lawrence can scramble and keeps his eyes down field. He throws well on the run. He may not a be a true threat to run like Dobbs, but he could run our offense very successfully. And he's had Vols tweets recently. We may not lead, but we're not out of it IMO. I'd be more than happy with Jones though.

Jones is committing before the end of June, visiting OSU, CU, TN, and TN gets the last visit. Appears TL and Jones both have made a decision.

From Georgia Rivals:

With plans still in place to commit during the summer, Georgia will continue to battle with familiar foes who are staking their claim for the standout.
“I’m going to Clemson next Thursday," Lawrence said. "I might go to Florida in July, but those are the only ones I have set. There might be more, like Tennessee or something like that, but I don’t know yet.”
Will the Bulldogs find him back on campus, though?
“Probably,” Lawrence said.
In the end, the star is keeping it simple when it comes decision time.
“Probably just the relationship with the coaches and where I feel most comfortable at,” Lawrence said.

Well if you read all of his quotes, not just the one stating that his childhood fandom of UT will not affect his decision, you'd know that he is not afraid of competition. All of his finalists have legit QB's on their rosters anyway, so..

Some depth charts look better than others IMO...and all these kids take the depth chart into consideration. The one thing Lawrence doesn't know is if the QBs on campus at the schools he's interested in will live up to their ranking.

I'm still trying to get used to an UGA fan not acting like an UGA fan. It's very refreshing.

I think not having a true qb coach might hurt us here.

Possibly but I think concerns over our system and WR stats are probably playing a bigger role. If we were running a Pro Style offense and throwing 40 passes a game, I think Lawrence would be ours. We know for a fact that Clemson's coaches are negatively recruiting against us with passing stats and our supposedly underachieving WR corps. We also know that the Lawrence family really likes Dabo and the Clemson staff. If we have slipped in his eyes, it's pretty easy to see why.

Crazy to watch this thread and how it might end. A lot like Mecole Hardman last year with heavy Vol lean to not interested.

Either the coaches dropped the ball big time here or want Jones more.

Agree that coaches from other programs are going to use the offensive system Tennessee runs to their advantage when recruiting Lawrence. It's not just the number of pass attempts per game though, but also how far the passes are being thrown. A big kid like Lawrence wants to take shots down the field, which means he needs good pass protection. I didn't watch every Tennessee game, so I'm not going to comment on Tennessee's pass protection...but whatever it was...is on film.

I can't speak for Clemson, but I'm quite sure that Georgia is using Pittman's O-Lines at Arky to sell Lawrence. Last year Brandon Allen threw for 3440 yards, while only being sacked 14 times. His average yards per attempt was 9.3 yards which was the highest among SEC starting QBs.

It will be interesting to see who commits first...Emory Jones or Lawrence. I don't see those two playing on the same team...but you never know in the wild wild west of recruiting.

Hey let's all be friends. We aren't really going head to head on too many recruits this year or next currently. Lawrence for Jones, Gibbs for Stevens, fair trades. Can't we kumbayah and hate Flurdah and Bammer together?

Ps- whatever happened to LebanonVolunteer? That guy knew his stuff!

Certainly true but with Lawrence being class of '18, I'm sure he understands that pretty much none of the offensive linemen he is seeing on film from any of the teams recruiting him will be blocking for him when he starts his first game in college... and considering how much both Jim Cheney and Sam Pittman have bounced around in their respective careers, there is no guarantee they will still be at UGA in 2019 either. A lot can change and undoubtedly will between now and then.

Just to expand a little on my above post, Jim Cheney has worked for 5 different college programs (Purdue, Tennessee, Arkansas, Pitt and UGA) and an NFL team (Rams) just since 2005. I would be using that with Lawrence against UGA. A 5 year stint in the same place for Cheney would be an eternity. It's unlikely, given his history, that he would be Lawrence's OC by his junior year in 2020.

I would try and use that against Chaney too. Doing that however opens the door for recruits to do the next logical thing, which is to pull up DeBord's coaching history. It's fairly common for coaches to jump around, and I think the kids know that. They also understand that it's the nature of the business for coordinators and position coaches to get fired when there is a HC change.

It's not unusual for coaches to bounce around. It's the nature of the business. Most coaches are looking for the next best gig or a way to advance their career. Position coaches want to become coordinators and coordinators want to become HCs. For what it's worth, Pittman is telling OL recruits that Georgia is his last rodeo. Normally I wouldn't buy that line, but in Pittman's case I think there may be some truth to it.

Course...cuz it pertains to YOUR team. :w00t:
