'18 GA QB Trevor Lawrence

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard those comments from him about Florida. His recent comments seem to imply he thinks he has a better chance of playing early at Florida...but he also says he thinks he can play early where ever he goes. He definitely does a good job of keeping his true feelings under wrap.

Reporter TOS was grilling him about info to click bait for UF fans and he said 'He seems interested but he's been to uga, Tennessee, and Clemson a lot. More times than UF. He mentioned today that's because they're 3 hours away as opposed to 6 hours to UF."

From the GA Rivals site regarding Emory Jones ...

Last week, spent time in Athens at the Kirby Smart Camp before competing at the Underclassman Challenge at the Georgia Dome on Sunday.
After that, it was off to Ohio State where Jones expected to stay through this afternoon before returning. Visits to Tennessee and Clemson are also on tap.

“Right now I’d say Ohio State, Tennessee and Georgia are recruiting me the hardest,” Jones told UGASports.com’s Jake Reuse.

So, where does he stand?
While the 2018 standout said he’s not in a particular hurry. Jones said he’s starting to take closer looks at the programs he’s most interested in and could begin narrowing his choices sometimes soon.

So, what about the Bulldogs?
Georgia is known to be hot after five-star Trevor Lawrence, but head coach Kirby Smart has also made it clear he favors having a versatile quarterback, one who is able to hurt a defense with his legs as well as his arm.

Is it because he could never stop a "versatile quarterback"?

I thought Bama's defense did a good job of holding Dobb's in check in last year's game. According to the stats on the ESPN website, Dobb's had 16 carries for 19 yards, and was 13/22 for 171 yards in passing. Have to have talent and depth to produce those type of results though; which I don't think Georgia has enough of this year...especially D-Line depth. Regardless, IMO the best way to stop elite dual threat QBs, is to keep them off the field. In last year's Tennessee game Georgia was 4-14 on 3rd down, which allowed Dobb's to keep getting back on the field. There's a video clip from the Tennessee game of Pruitt with daggers coming out of his eyes mouthing off to Richt on the sidelines after another three and out.

Well, you have to keep in mind that he was sacked five times and for some strange reason lost yardage in sacks is deducted from rushing yards instead of passing. So, he probably had 30 yards taken away from what he actually gained when he was trying to run. Still not a great day for him but better than you might think just by looking at stats. I was proud of Tennessee's effort vs Alabama last year but they still had too many negative plays on offense and too many missed FG's.

TL's school is doing a satellite camp today and TL is there helping with it, seems like an easy way to get some recruiting in with TL at his place. Not to mention, Cartersville has a QB behind TL that will get a LOT of attention, already being looked at by colleges in 7 on 7 as an 8th grader, will be in 9th this year I believe. Put this name in your memory bank, Tee Webb, the name means he has to be a VOL, right?

The kid already has a Louisville offer and will be TL's backup for two more years.

You found all this on the INTERNET?!? :eek:hmy:

Actually watching the games is overrated huh? :)

I'll refrain from answering that until Higgins makes his decision.:)

Probably anywhere within the next month,” he said of a commitment date. “Maybe a little after, but probably within the next month. I don’t know where I’m going to go yet. I know some schools are more ahead than others, but I don’t know for sure yet.”

The fourth team in the hunt for Lawrence — Tennessee — is one he admits is behind others.

“They used to be the team I liked when I grew up, so I guess that always used to be my dream school. When I got into recruiting, they’re probably not at the top of my list right now, but I still like them. I like Coach [Mike] DeBord a lot, and they got a really nice campus.”-247

Recruiting is sometimes weird to me, one kid mentions a dream school and it doesn't affect his decision, another kid seems to base his entire decision based off it being a dream school. All I will say is, at least both seem to be doing their research. But, anyone with teenagers, what they think today doesn't hold water for tomorrow.

Off topic, but I agree about teenagers and recruiting... My daughter is a golfer between her sophomore and junior years so we've visited several schools lately, and more to come. Every school we go to becomes her new "favorite." These coaches, and I'm sure golf coaches aren't on the same level as football coaches, really know how to "sell" these kids on their product. Hell, I even find myself wavering at times and I'm plenty far from a teenager!!

As a side note, I have no idea where TL is going to sign, but I hope he chooses UT!!

Geez, what happened?

IMO, probably not the best idea for a QB in the '18 class to commit this early. Any potion other than QB/K/P, I can see committing now, but seems a little too early for me.

Staying on the same off topic, kudos to you for taking her to play golf. Any parents wanting to get their daughter a full athletic scholarship, women's golf is the #1 sport in competition vs scholarships. Also for taking the trips and letting her see all her options, good job. :hi:

It's the new fad for QBs and coaches, they want the QB to be the face of the recruiting class. Started about 4-5 years ago. There is a reason there isn't ant top '17 QBs still on the board.

I actually have the Bama-Tennessee game downloaded onto my computer and have watched the entire game twice to get a better idea of how Kirby/Tucker might defend Tennessee this year. The full game is on youtube for those interested. I also watched the game live last year. Also, my last post contained factual information about a Kirby defense having success against a dual threat QB. Yes I got the info on the internet. The internet actually has a lot of good information...LOL.

Exactly..Butch is usually very prescient, but he blew this one. EJ really screwed them over by being fickle. The staff should have gauged his interest in OSU better probably.

That is why you go full blast until at least one commits somewhere. You can't put all your eggs in one basket at the most pivotal position on the team. Even then, you don't give up or give in, it's why I think the EJ sweepstakes isn't over.

That said, Very surprised Tn was not at TL's satellite camp this morning, plenty of Ga talent to be plucked at that camp besides TL. Heck, Bobo at CSU was there. Send Debord, coach Azzanni, heck anybody.

No on this slant. You never stop recruiting top talent and put all your eggs in one basket. Lawrence had the opportunity to commit anytime in the last couple of years. We never backed off him for a moment. If he goes elsewhere that is just what happens but you cannot point blame at not recruiting him as hard as is legal.

Still a long way to go. Butch doesn't give up on recruits after they commit elsewhere (especially when they aren't even in the current years class).

This.. I find it comical that some think the staff backed off or 'blew' this in some way..

First, he's an '18 recruit and it's FAR from over.

Second, if he does go elsewhere it's because that's what he wanted...

Disagree on this. I think UT had a chance, but we were beat in the recruiting game by 2 Other SEC schools and an ACC school. You don't let a kid like TL get away. UGA had no chance until the new staff came into the picture 5 months ago. Clemson has been steady throughout. No way the coaches should have let this happen. Kid grows up a UT fan, becomes the #1 QB in the country and we are 4th behind UF😳🙄.

That's still assuming a lot for a class of '18 player and once again, we don't know why Tennessee has slipped. It could just be that Lawrence prefers a pro-style offense. Anyway, this is a lot of angst over a player who probably won't start anywhere until 2019. Tennessee has it's QB for the foreseeable future - and he is perfect for the system they run. If Guarantano is redshirted this coming season (seems probable with Dormady as a backup), it would be 2020 or possibly even 2021 before Lawrence was ever the starting QB at Tennessee, if he did choose to come here. Some of you guys are acting like Christmas was canceled or something. We're fine.

Would the INTERNET have told you how well Smart's defense handled Dobbs if SMART wasn't your new HC? :) Regular people watchin on the picture box seem to think Smart has had trouble with the Dobbs matchup.
