'18 LA TE Glenn Beal (Texas A&M signee)

Pruitt wants 6-5+ blocking TEs for his offense. Current Vols are shorter (pass-catching?) TEs.

Tennessee TEs

80 Eli Wolf / 6-4, 224, RSJr., 1V
88 LaTrell Bumphus / 6-3, 258, So., 1V
81 Austin Pope / 6-4, 230, RSSo., 1V
84 TE James Brown / 6-3, 222, RSFr.

Pruitt has signed:

TE Dominik Wood-Anderson / 6-5, 250, Jr., 2CC - juco
EE TE Jacob Warren / 6-6, 211, Fr., HS

Pruitt is recruiting

Beal / 6-5, 250

Alabama TEs (for comparison purposes)

Smith / 6-4, 246, So.
Hentges / 6-5, 249, Jr.
Forristall / 6-5, 238, So.
Tennison / 6-5, 245, Fr.
Stewart / 6-8, 266, So.

Warren is anything but a big blocking TE though. He's basically a jumbo WR.

Wouldn't Southern Cal's TE's be a more applicable comparison?

Here it is. Three above 6-4 and 245 lbs. Only one below 235 lbs. Only two below 6-4.

82 Petite, Tyler TE 6-4 250 Jr.
83 Falo, Josh TE 6-6 235 Fr.
84 Krommenhoek, Erik TE 6-5 245 Fr.
87 Hursh, Alec TE 6-3 220 R-Jr.
88 Imatorbhebhe, Daniel TE 6-3 235 R-So.
89 Applebee, Austin TE 6-6 245 R-Jr.

Edit: We only have two over 230 lbs, Bumphis may move to DE and Wood-Anderson who just signed. And the only two we have over 6-4 were signed in Dec. :loco:

That's were I say he'll end up. He's being recruited for that position my different schools. Anyone know his preference? TE or DE?

Geez have we been the smallest team in America at all positions lol

Good chance beal grows into an OT. Either way staff wants a blocking TE a we don't have those

Just my guess, but Pruitt and staff will not be recruiting players to grow into another position, especially OL. As others have mentioned, Beal can play TE or DE, similar to Jason Witten.

Yeah I just edited with the following to highlight all of our current "size". I'd say Beal at TE would be a great pickup.

In that case I’d say Bumphus is definitely getting moved to DE

probably, and you could see Warren getting a RS.

Wood-Anderson wasn't brought here to sit, so you figure he's definitely going to play.

no idea how pope and wolfe fit in to what these guys want to do. and Beal is too big not to see time, even if it's mostly as a blocking TE in double sets.

you might see one of our current TE's wind up transferring if Beal signs.

I know. That's why I won't waste my money for their "premium" service.

It's less than you spend on lunch one day. They provide a lot of good information... with the post visit interviews as well as info on upcoming visits etc.

That said... they are all over the map when it comes to understanding where the players are leaning, or where the coaching staff has players ranked, etc.

I get recruiting is fluid, but when you report that the team isn't pursuing ITS hard and we won't in house with him.... only to have Fair in his living room 5 hours later and the team hosting his entire family two days later is comical.

Regarding Beal... hard to get excited for an in-line blocker simply because it isn't a "sexy" position. But he'd certainly play a critical role in the run game. Plus with as much emphasis as the staff is putting on him, you know they think he's a must get.

Hope AtlantaVol was right in what he posted the other day.

I know, but the majority of what they say is going to get repeated here anyway. Besides, I only really follow recruiting from December-February.

RS Jr Eli Wolf 6’4 224
RS So Austin Pope 6’4 230
So James Brown 6’3 222
RS So Andrew Craig 6’5 240
Jr DWA 6’5 245
Fr Beal 6’5 255

I don’t think Pope or Wolf will ever be the type to be 250+ TEs, but they’re pretty athletic and i think will definitely have a role in the offense in some way. Craig could put on another 10 or so and be a blocking TE.

Everybody complains that our OL sucks and we need help, but this guy could probably help our OL in run and pass blocking as a TE faster than any freshman OL would. People have forgotten how much blocking TE's can help a team because as you said, it's not a sexy position. But there are still a lot of guys making good money in the NFL as almost strictly blocking TE's. Plus this guy seems like he could be a pretty good receiving TE as well. Very athletic and seems to have good hands.
