'18 TN QB/WR Alontae Taylor (UT commit 6/18/16)

“In other words, we’re going to drop Taylor at the next update. Despite having off the charts athleticism and already showing a knack for running routes and getting open against elite competition, he has a flaw in one of the most correctable aspects of the position so he will drop in the next rankings”

-Farrell

BUT if he had signed with UGA?

By all means, put a chip on this kids shoulder. He’ll prove you wrong.

I'll take elite athleticism over hands every day of the week. Athletes can become better ball catchers with work. Not as easy to become more athletic.

He should get a bump up in ratings if they have him listed as an athlete. Sings his praises as an athlete, but knocks his hands. Can't drop a kid listed as an athlete and is a phenomenal athlete.

If you have him rated as an athlete and he is athlete as heck then why would you potentially drop him for not doing everything a full time WR does. I could understand if you had him rated as a WR to drop but if you couldn't rank him as a WR don't judge him fully as one. Judge his athleticism and versatility if you have him as an athlete

Maybe because he’s going to be a WR at UT. Only reason I can think of.

Somebody had mentioned that he didn’t have one drop. Maybe I misread, but I remember seeing something along those lines.

He didn't have one drop on the 11 or so throws they showed in his practice highlight video. Safe to say they threw more passes his way that did not make the video IMO.

Not sure I agree or disagree necessarily, there are guys on both sides of the argument (Rice not the most athletic guy but didn’t miss a catch / C. Patterson for us was elite athletically but not a great pass catcher)

Who knows, really depends on the player, hand eye coordination while moving... my gripe is that almost every position groups rating is based off potential other than WR and CB

If you’re talking about my earlier comment I was being sarcastic...yes, he didn’t drop any passes in that video but I’m sure at some point during practice he has dropped passes...

All the same...the video shows he doesn’t have absolute stones for hands...and as GFW said...he can improve his hands greatly with coaching and practice...elite SEC level athleticism can’t be taught

Rice was notorious for the dropsies as a rookie...he got better. :wink2: Good thing Walsh didn’t cut him.

Maybe he was transitioning as a rookie but the reason he was drafted was because of his uncanny ability to catch any and everything thrown in his direction in college. His nickname was “world” cause he caught anything around him... well over 1000 yards receiving each year including almost 2000 yards as a senior.

Oh I know the whole background thing. Read in SI before he was drafted that he helped his dad in summers with bricklaying (pause for Butch reference) and would catch them from his brother as they unloaded at a job site. Taught him two things...how to keep his hands “soft” to catch naturally AND to outwork everybody to keep from doing that for a living. Point was, out of Mississippi Valley State playing for the defending Super Bowl champs, he had a rough start and a lot of HACKS formed a narrative out of that.
