'18 TN QB/WR Alontae Taylor (UT commit 6/18/16)

I remember watching Kyle Phillips dominate in an All Star game and drooling over his future at UT. No disrespect to Kyle, but he hasn't panned out like I was hoping.

Kid commits during commercial break, puts on a helmet after the break, and gets back to back sacks. I was texting all my homies.

“It’s big,” Taylor said. “I’ve seen where Georgia lost a recruit because Pruitt was hired. He backed off his Georgia commitment. I saw where a linebacker said Tennessee is his top schools. The first thing I saw was [wide receiver] Jacob Copeland, who said Tennessee was one of his top schools. As soon as I saw that, I jumped on that. I’ve been talking to him.

“It’s going to make a big impact on Tennessee. Some people say it’s going to take a lot of time. But I give it a year; after my freshman year, we have the 2019 class and we are going to get it going.”

The former Georgia commit Taylor referred to is defensive lineman Jaevon Becton. He’s looks to be deciding between the Vols and Virginia Tech. I imagine Becton is a little farther down the list for Tennessee right now, though.

Copeland would be a big get for Pruitt. He is one of the best wide receivers in the country and a 4-star prospect. There have been plenty of comparisons made about the Pensacola, Fla., native and former Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin.

Copeland tweeted immediately after the Pruitt hire that the Vols had moved to the top of his list.

Copeland has been in Orlando, Fla., all week for the Under Armour All-America game. Taylor has been there for the game as well and spent the time in Copeland’s ear.

Taylor has also been there with another very important prospect. Cornerback Olaijah Griffin might be the Vols’ No. 1 target at this time. At the very least, he is the most important.

Tennessee doesn’t have a cornerback commit in the Class of 2018. The Vols are also losing their top four corners from last season.

...

“Pruitt is real,” Taylor said. “He’s not going to tell you what you want to hear. He’s going to tell you what it is and what it’s going to be. It’s either you like it or you don’t. If you don’t like it, then don’t come.

All you read about his UA experience is about his drops. Rivals can't wait to bust him down some in their rankings.

He's gonna score some TD's for us down the road. He's worked Cope and JJ pretty good at the UA game. Hopefully, we get both to sign.

Copeland runs with speed and serious wiggle. Doubles as a RB and wildcat QB. Likes the long ball as a receiver.

I can see the Percy Harvin comparison. QB, WR, RB. He does have some great moves to get those extra yards. He’s freaking stout too if those strength numbers are correct.

Not sure I agree or disagree necessarily, there are guys on both sides of the argument (Rice not the most athletic guy but didn’t miss a catch / C. Patterson for us was elite athletically but not a great pass catcher)

Who knows, really depends on the player, hand eye coordination while moving... my gripe is that almost every position groups rating is based off potential other than WR and CB

CP was also not a very good route runner, while AT is by all accounts already a very smooth route runner along with his athleticism. He seems to have much less that needs fixing than CP did.

Good route running opens up a lot for the offense. Malone was good, Just Hunter was awesome. I remember him breaking some ankles against Florida his sophomore year before he went down.

Running style reminds me of how Byrd looked at Naples when he got the ball in his hands

Hunter was one of the best dig route receivers I have ever seen. Never lost any speed with the move and was always open in man coverage.
