'18 TN RB Master Teague

I meant that I think it is a big mistake to not get Teague. Whiff was the wrong word I guess, but I did add "for any reason". I think this kid is a star. But I'm no genius, its just my opinion.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but why do you think you know more about UT's RB needs than CRG? We don't know what the coaches know about prospects, needs and what's best for UT.

Question on 247:

How high is Master Teague on Tennessee's RB board? Is he trending away?

Callahan's response:

Teague has become a pretty high priority for Tennessee in recent weeks. I wouldn't say he's "trending away" from the Vols, but they have some legitimate competition for him. South Carolina has made him a big priority for months and has gotten off to a very good start with him, but Auburn extended an offer to him during his visit there a couple weeks ago, and Clemson just hosted him this past weekend, so he's still strongly considering several teams. Sounds like there's a good chance he'll visit Tennessee again this spring, but he's trying to check out some other places he hasn't been, and the Vols hosted him on multiple visits last year.

I still believe Tennessee is in pretty good shape with him and will be a major factor in his decision, but I wouldn't say the Vols are his leader or anything right now. It's possible they have some ground to make up on South Carolina, but they're going to remain in the mix there.

Sounds to me that Callahan isn't getting the impression that Teague is "down on the RB board."

That's the thing, nobody knows the board we are all dealing with hearsay.

Pure speculation. Unfortunately, a lot of folks on here like to take that speculation and run with it. I think their comfort zone is doom and gloom.

Anybody can be wrong. These guys are human beings trying to make pressure filled decisions that will impact the rest of their careers. Sometimes that causes people to over think things. It happened with Philips last year in my opinion. But like I said twice already, I'm not meaning to come off overly critical, but I believe from what I've seen Teague do, that it would be a big mistake to not go all out for him. Which it appears we may be doing anyway, so the whole point is probably moot. If they miss on Teague because he just wants to fly the coop, that is understandable, but I just hope it doesn't happen because they don't give him the full treatment afforded blue chip elites.

The point was that the staff has missed out on a productive player in state player in a position of need each year. And in most cases, had they pursued that player early on they could have had them. It does seem to be a pattern and don't you think 'star rankings' go out the window once they are in college and produce?

I was responding to your comment about not taking lower-ranked kids that just happened to do well their first year in college. That argument is weak because it's based on entirely on the benefit of 20/20 hindsight.

You can make that criticism for just about every state in the nation. With limited schollies, rosters, and time for coaches to recruit, no P5 school can identify all the kids that are play above their level once they get to college.

Now, if you're talking about kids like Phillips from the last recruiting cycle, yes, that was a miss. But I think that overall this staff has done a pretty good job of evaluations.

Oer than the coaches themselves, we are always dealing with hearsay.

I see comments from posters saying we can't let this one get away or we are going to miss on him because.....

The thing is, anyone reporting whether or not we are actively recruiting someone as a priority is likely guessing, unless they got it from a coach or player.

I'm really starting to question the CRG hype. Finishing second doesn't count for anything in recruiting. Don't get me wrong, I'm not meaning to be, and am not hyper critical of CRG. Akers AND Chandler would have been an insane haul. Whiffing on Teague for any reason is not a good idea.

I remember when we didn't finish second...the number rhymed with "never even considered". :)

Wrong. Thanks!

You're not looking at the facts that's right in front of you. Read a bit or go back & look at how we do this with in-state recruits. I've been following it pretty closely & long before I became a member here too. Thanks Newt.

Ok, since it's fact, name the in state players since Butch has been here that we should have made a priority but didn't....

I must have missed those facts too. Can you please post them.

It also seems I remember, when you decided to start posting regularly in the RF, that you said while you have been a TN fan for a long time, you had only recently really started getting into following recruiting.

Then you jumped into it feet first and decided to swamp the RF with hundreds of threads.

Could I be mistaken? Maybe. It sure really seems like you posted something like that though. I'm not going to go look for it though. There are gurus around here that can find it quickly enough, if it in fact does exist.

Once again. Maybe I'm remembering something that didn't happen. Sure seems like it did though.

:hi:
