Hey Guys: Otito Ogbonnia has become a fast-rising name since December, and he'll be on an official to Tennessee this weekend. His final visit could come next weekend to what I am thinking will be Nebraska, and will be deciding on NSD between the Vols, Huskers, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and UCLA - of which I don't really count on Ole Miss or ND factoring in, based on our talk. He's a two-sport guy looking to throw shot put in college and has been told he can do that in Knoxville, so a guy to keep an eye on here as we are coming down to NSD.

From a Rivals Texas guy Nick Kruger

What are your thoughts on this staff?

Well, I'm not super familiar with everyone on the staff... but at a glance I think there are some interesting minds coming together to make up the offensive group, which is exciting considering how the season ended last year for you guys. I don't know who the area recruiter has been in Texas, but the offers have been coming out fast and furious out here and I think that's pretty encouraging. It seems in the past, from a recruiting standpoint, if guys got offered out here, it seemed as though they just kind of hoped that the rep of the program did the work for them.

I thought at the time that JP was hired, that was a good pickup considering the trouble the program had landing some of the other more conventional names everyone was floating. I think he puts out a different aura than Butch did and I think that is something that is going to pay dividends in all aspects of the program

Liked him for the nose. I like him better than C. Miller but that’s just me.

ogbonnia also has watched his stock rise over the past several weeks, adding offers from notre dame, nebraska, ucla, virginia and oklahoma state in addition to tennessee since early december.

A track and field standout who’s regarded as one of the nation’s best shot-putters, the 6-foot-4, 295-pound ogbonnia has been on official visits to texas tech, ole miss and ucla. All three visits were primarily for track and field, although he also looked into the football programs at all three schools during the visits.

He’s now planning to take two more visits before signing day, starting with his trip to tennessee this weekend. He said this week that nebraska could get his final visit next weekend before he announces his college choice on national signing day, which is feb. 7.

Ogbonnia, who’s ranked the no. 754 overall prospect and no. 55 defensive tackle in the 247sports composite for the 2018 class, announced this week that he plans to choose between six schools — texas tech, tennessee, ucla, ole miss, notre dame and nebraska — although texas and texas a&m also have shown interest in him.
