'18 TX DT Otito Ogbonnia (UCLA signee)

Even though no official times them, I usually do just for fun. The tv announcer always makes a big deal about the guy who throws it the farthest, but I know who the real winner is.

From here on out, when it comes to Linemen, I think we should use Jim time.

What was his Jim time in the Shot? :good!:

Nuclear is top notch and aerospace as an undergrad program is really good.

The affiliation with ORNL really helps UT. I’m biased to TTU for the basics (especially when we beat big brother at ASCE competitions), but UT has better facilities, options, and grad research opportunities than most.

Yeppers. The civil department had no resources but has gotten better. Not sure how it compared to others but I was pissed that other schools like Florida has dedicated ASCE competition classes. University said “you’re on your own!”

We never had any classes, but a few professors were very involved in helping give guidance. It was always a big deal with 1 goal: beat UT. More than once we’ve won the southeast too. My one time traveling we finished just a hair behind UT. Still bitter about that.

Which year was that?

Building your brand is something this coaching staff is selling.

I like it. Instead of “yeah, but what’s his 400 time?” we’ll ask “what’s his shot put approach time?” Much better measurement of short distance quickness.

According to best authorities, the athlete has only so much time after entering the circle, but the shot put is not timed. What are we looking for here, hang time?

* Tennessee also made up ground for defensive tackle Otito Ogbonnia this weekend. The 3-star lineman has strong ties to Texas Tech, but the feeling is that the Vols’ community and coaches give them a legit shot to pull the DT from Texas. Ogbonnia will take his final OV to Nebraska this weekend.

The Vols are now “definitely” in Obgonnia’s “Top 2 or 3” following his official visit, as the 6-foot-3, 300-pound lineman said, “I was really impressed with what Tennessee is about to do. I think coach Pruitt is the real deal.”

“Pruitt thinks I can come in and play if I work hard. He really likes me. The only way I wouldn’t be successful (at Tennessee) would be my own fault,” Ogbonnia said.

“He likes that I can play multiple positions. He likes that I’m not just a tackle or just an end. He likes my physicality.”

Ogbonnia has family ties at Texas Tech — both his brother and sister go to school in Lubbock — but his mom attended his official visit to Tennessee this weekend and both were very comforted with a particular aspect around the Vols.

The school (he wants to major in engineering), the facilities and the players (he was hosted by Trey Smith) stood out, but the people left the biggest impression.

“I had pretty high expectations. I expected it to be nice,” he said before adding, “but I was just impressed with the people. They just have good people, and that’s what I’m looking for: good people, a place I can go excel.”

“They’re really traditional people. They’re really big on tradition. They have a legacy that’s going to be know for a long time.”

This guy is built like a tank. 300 lbs of muscle; doesn't look to be carrying much fat. A strong inside lineman who could put on more weight if required. Prototypical NT if you ask me.
