When you are only analyzing the specific problem of random spree shootings, it makes sense. That is because of how frequently AR 15 style rifles have been used in shooting sprees over the last ten years, especially in the most deadly attacks :

You’ve mentioned this ridiculous stupidity before. You don’t need to know how many guns I have. You don’t need to worry about where or how I keep them in my home. If I want to leave one laying on the counter, on the headboard, or on the arm of my recliner that’s my business and none of yours. I’ve already been through the background check to get them and the license I have pertaining to them is to carry it with me virtually wherever I go. Any sentencing guidelines you want to spew should be directly aimed at criminals who illegally obtain or use a firearm. I bet there’s plenty of criminals out there roaming the streets who had gun charges dismissed or reduced and carrying a gun right now.
