19 students, 3 adults dead in Texas elementary shooting.

I'm not giving up my guns any time soon, but why does the Constitution specifically mention well regulated militia?

I'm trying to understand every angle of this so I can do something other than stare blankly at people when this part of the discussion comes up.
A well regulated militia imo means the people coming together to fight against a tyrannical government. A militia is just a group of people with a common goal.

If I could, I wish I could bring you on school tours when I'm making my student teacher observation rounds. I'd park you right in the front row of a history/social studies class and let you see for yourself how wrong you are.
I may be. But then again, am I? Do you “know” without a doubt or is what you read and teach just hearsay?

That is NOT what was meant by "well regulated militia" in the 2A. Most of our FFs were against maintaining a large standing Army and wanted the states to maintain militias that would be available for call up and for internal state security.

Quote 3403. Same applies to you. You may know your history and I’m not arguing that with either of you. What I’m saying is no one here was there.

Local police force has ceased all cooperation with Texas State DPS investigation into the response to the school shooting. To me, this is the equivalent of a criminal suspect clamming up and asking for a lawyer. Sounds like they know the investigation is not going well for them

And those militia members would need to already be armed with weapons with which they were familiar (their very own weapons being the best solution)

Cops know you don't cooperate with cops....

Seriously though, there will be some on the force that will talk. Not all of them were in on it.

Yes but it's two separate things. The states can keep their militias AND the right of the individuals to keep arms shall not be infringed.

States have proposed legislation that includes every state resident (of age) as part of the militia with the opportunity to opt out.

Apparently I am.
Our history is being rerouted. They just allowed BLM to tear down statues of the very history you’re speaking of now. Do you think they allowed it because they still intend to teach it? Once this generation is gone, history books will be rewritten. Pieces are being left out as we speak. Books are being banned. Over the years I’m sure bits and pieces were left out for us as well. Don’t be naive and think we were thought everything. I assure you, we weren’t

Pick up a book and let it take you back in time and you can really get a feel for what many of the FFs thought. It's almost like a time machine.
Yes indeed. I am working my way through the Federalist Papers right now. Well worth the effort. The sentence rhythm and phrasing is different than modern sensibilities so it is not a fast read. But in terms of brilliance in writing and clarity of thought, I remain convinced hat the last half of the 18th Century was the best crafted writing in the history of the English Language. Edward Gibbon, Samuel Johnson, the American founders. Just incredible word artists.
