19 students, 3 adults dead in Texas elementary shooting.

That doesn't make any sense. I live in a place with a crazy sheriff and likely one of the highest gun ownership % in the country yet schools lock the doors. They have an SRO, some teachers are armed and they practice lockdown drills. Given the world around them it seems very shortsighted to take no precautions
I'm simply saying I can understand. You don't normally have largely Hispanic schools with mass shootings happening.

This is purely anecdotal, but it seems like we often find out that the shooter bought their weapons within a few months or days of the shooting.
Stats show “arsenal guys” are hold up in a bunker and defend their ground guys. Like the Waco Texas Branch Davidian cult.
The mass shooters are the “I’ve finally had enough” mentality unstable just bought a gun for the first time types.
I believe the Vagas shooter, who had an arsenal with him, didn’t own a gun at all a year before the shooting (could be wrong on that. I’m going from memory on something I read. I could be crossing up stories).

I figured an older design is the case with yours. My elementary school was wide open but at some point after I went to middle/HS they added gates to every outdoor gap and redirected the common routes away from outside doors. In the 90s, I think kidnapping was the thing. Also columbine in 96? I was 8 so maybe that's why. Idk.

I get the concern, just not for going down this road.

I doubt anyone in here has refrained from sending their kid to school because they fear they will be shot to death by a maniac.

Statistically speaking, you’re just not going to encounter this in your life. I totally get the fear but I’m not for reacting to it.

Will someone who wants to make a law that prevents criminals from purchasing firearms give an actual proposal of said bill, explain the differences from the current system, and also explain how it will prevent tragedies like this?
The goal is a total ban on firearms (long term) and political capital short term. You won't see anything real other than bluster.

I am for the right to keep and bear arms.
This idea that's it's easier to obtain a gun today than in the past is hogwash.
In years past you could walk into any Kmart, Sears, Western Auto etc and walk out with a gun and ammo in ten minutes. Order one through a catalog etc.
We carried them to school in our vehicles.
Most everyone's dad, granddad, uncle, brother had them sitting around the house.
Again it's not a gun issue it's the moral decay of our society.
One question I will pose, body armor. Almost all of these shooters have body armor. Why does the common Joe need access to body armor?
If the gubment wants to take your guns body armor want stop them.

It’s our cowardly desire to own weapons of war that’s causing this.

When I clicked on her Twitter page it gave balloons and confetti and it says “Today is their birthday” . That’s all need to know about her politics. If we’re going to take measures to make sure that these atrocities don’t continue we need serious people to take charge . We don’t need these mentally weak, soft ass opportunists who are just trying to politicize every crisis . They’re just as much as a problem as the people they accuse of being the main culprits.

Neither will guns.

Facts emerging about the gunman
-Played violent 1st person shooter video games
-Recently went to live with his Grandmother because his mom is addicted to drugs
-Frequently had shouting matches with his mother and called her vulgar names. Police had responded to calls at the home. He posted videos of this on Instagram
-Once cut his face with a knife and told a friend that he was scratched by a cat and then admitted he actually cut his face because it was fun
-Used to drive around and shoot random people with a BB gun

I predict he was also on antipsychotic meds like so many of the other school shooters.
Seems the warning signs were all there............
4 and 5 are the only keys imo, maybe 3. 2 is ehhh could go either way.
1 is a load of **** people who think violent video games make kids do these things are the same idiots who want to take guns away. They're making noise without actually looking at the cause.

Do we know if after shooting his grandmother, he planned to shoot up the school, or was it just the closest safe haven after he wrecked his truck?
And where did he get the cash for the weapons and truck?
He messaged a random woman online showing her his guns and magazine. He then messaged her just before the shooting that he had a "lil secret" and when she asked what it was he said "I'm about to......." and then she didn't get anymore messages from him

When I was a kid, we had shotguns and rifles in our cars for after school hunting. Perfectly acceptable. When I was in college (small school) we allowed a gun in our dorm room for hunting during our free time. Guns weren't an issue then. Guns aren't the issue now.

Nowadays you need a 30.06 in the rack to penetrate body armor

That's definitely how Farragut is. I certainly agree that we need to completely revamp our mental health system. However, single locked entry with an armed officer at every school seems like a no-brainer.

Be careful what you ask for. Plenty of stories about cops going ham on kids for no good reason. I'd prefer the security be a school system employee.

You searched for school cops - Reason.com

Now in my father's day, they actually carried their shotguns to school and kept them in the lockers to hunt after school (or before). I dont have exact figures but I would strongly suspect that the level of gun ownership (meaning how many households own a gun) has not changed as a percentage of the population. If anything, it may have declined. Yet there were no shootings like this back then.

Only after the clock tower incident in 1966 did they start and even then it was still rare. Then there was a rash of them in the early 80s and more in the 90s (including Columbine). Since 2007, however, there have been over 21 mass shootings of more than 10 people.

What is it about PEOPLE that has changed? it isn't because there are more guns, more powerful guns or that they have easier access to them. For some reason, PEOPLE have decided that it is ok and that their means to significance is to murder a bunch of people. What is it about society that has taught them that is good? What has changed about society? One thing at least since 2007 is the advent of social media.

Some wonder why culture wars are important, this is part of the reason.

People spend way too much time with their phones and too little time with other people.

While we rightly weep for this senseless act, there will likely be just as many or more murdered in Chicago and Detroit in just the next week and no one will say anything.

These cities dont allow guns of any sort.

Again, what is it about the culture where people think this is ok?
We live in a wicked culture. The media, the govt, these Davos type mfers... they are all working to destroy this country (Western civilization). Until you clowns come to grips with this fact, then nothing will change. Just keep voting red team/blue team and waving your flags and buying more guns.

We don’t know if the Vegas shooter was the actual shooter, or even if he was the only shooter. Someone from our intelligence agencies was in his room at some point and left behind their cell phone charger. We haven’t and never will get the truth about that night.

My thoughts also. Per reports he worked at Wendy's, now I'm not sure how much burger joints are paying these days but I really doubt they are paying that kind of money.
His grandfather is also a felon and the kid lived in living room on a mattress. Likely drugs involved as well

FBI: 61 'active shooter incidents' reported in 2021, 52% jump from 2020

Report also cited only 4 times was a private citizen carrying a firearm able to intervene. Debunks the whole NRA argument that more people carrying guns makes us all safer. I have no problem with hunting rifles and most handguns. AR-15 is not hunting rifle. It's all about the NRA false narrative that some big government Boogeyman is going to take all your guns, so you better arm up now, but in reality it's just about selling more guns.
Odd. Thats what I'm using tomorrow on a bunch of wild boars.
