'19 TN CB Woodi Washington

If he’s not going to compete for an offer, then he sure as hell ain’t going to compete for a starting spot.

How’d you come to that conclusion? He can always compete at another school for a starting position. He may not have to camp at Tennessee for is offer to be committable. Do you know if it’s a requirement or is it just garbage a certain poster is spewing to stir the pot? Kid is one of the most competitive and coachable kids on the field you can be around. Don’t come with the nonsense off of BS rumors. The facts are he’s attending national camps to go against the best players he can find. He has a multiple college options so him camping at Tennessee isn’t a big deal outside of the UT fanbase.

State allegiances are kinda overblown, especially in a state like Tennessee where the three regions have more in common with the adjoining states than they do with each other. If it is a recruiting advantage, use it, but since UT will live and die by how well we recruit Georgia, it's kinda silly to get hung up on in-state kids who want to go elsewhere. When UT is back to consistent top-10 performance, more middle and west Tennessee kids will be interested.
East and Middle Tennessee have a lot more in common with each other than either does with West Tennessee. But I get your point.

I'm starting to get like Newt about instate recruits, but it seems like most good Tennessee HS players suck at having pride in their home state, and even marginal talents think they are too good for UT. Get out and stay out. It makes me really appreciate guys like Trey and the others that have stayed home to bring us back to our rightful place, and restore pride in the power T.

PS..When Pruitt gets this thing rolling, kids like ths will be begging to get a shot.

Agreed. If you don’t have any state pride and think UT should fawn all over you just because you’re in state? Doesn’t work that way. Not aiming this at Woodi because idk how much of this is internet speculation and how much is fact, but for any instate kids that think they’re too good for UT??? Cue the curly bill gif

I've never lived west of Knoxville (Tri-Cities now), but that doesn't surprise me. But being as UT is in east Tennessee...well, you know.

If UTK were actually UTN, I suspect recruiting would be very different. And no, Vandy doesn't count.

The only reason it’s a big deal to the fans is because it appears to be a big deal to Pruitt. I think everyone would rather see him camp and compete for the offer. It’s apparent he doesn’t care about the UT offer if he doesn’t care to camp.

You're damn right.

I just don't get how this staff can pass on a future NFL shut down corner like Woodi Washington but are chomping at the bits for a marginal NFL backup like Quavaris Crouch?

Pruitt might prove to be a great coach but his player evaluation skills are heavily lacking. He's passing on so many talented players for guys with significantly less talent.

Shouldn't you be watching more HUDL studying "film"? You're wasting your talents talking to these clowns here.

Not BB, but what I'm getting from it is that he may feel like very confident in his abilities, and may feel slighted that players that he's on par with have not been asked to camp, but yet he has for his own home state university. Kid probably feels like if others can recognize and respect his abilities, then that's who he'll recognize and respect, and if my evaluation is true (I haven't talked with him personally) I honestly can't say that I blame him

If he doesn't like UT, that's fine. If, as you suggest, he is put off because coach wants more info about him, that's pretty childish. The fact that you can't say you blame him doesn't make his attitude any less immature. People in all walks of life have to prove themselves every day.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a recruit wanting a school and coaches to believe in his skills. This board ridiculed me when I said it might turn him away but it's very understandable

When you say outlandish crap all the time, you don't get the benefit of the doubt. This is your own fault.

I think that is too black and white of a statement. I believe Middle-TN shares commonalities with both East and West TN, while West and East TN have little in common other than they all consider themselves Tennesseans. Tennesseans living in counties like Dickson or Humphries in Mid-TN are going to have more in common with West TN than they will with East TN, while those in counties like Puckett and Van Buren are going to share more commonalities with East TN. And Nashville/Davidson is going to be mixed. Those Nashvillians originally from West-TN are going to relate more to the West, while those from East-TN are naturally going to relate more to the East. Those formerly from out of state, and there are tons in Mid-TN, likely won't relate to either East or West.

I can understand the guy being upset. However, I would use that as fuel to ball out in camp at UT. What this tells me is he has quit in him, and he doesn’t handle adversity very well.

Then why is it ok to camp at other schools?

Except he's camping at other schools so that tells me he's just not interested in Tennessee.

Pruitt made it clear his offer is contingent upon his performance at camp. So, maybe you’re right. Good, we can move on to others that have legit interest

This is not a direct shot at Woodi per se bc I don’t know the kid personally, but I have coached college and high school athletes and kids now days carry a sense of entitlement that wasn’t around 15+ yrs ago. It’s really coaches and parents fault as much as any for coddling them and giving them whatever they want dreaming the kid will “make it” giving the handler “rights” to leech off them and have status and wealth. Most of these high profile athletes have always been the alpha and been catered to by teachers, local businesses, etc. They carry that badge of entitlement with them everywhere they go and expect to be treated that way by everyone they meet in life. When they meet people that challenge their abilities or want them to prove themselves, they get offended or mad and it becomes the fault of the person who challenged them. Again, this may not be the case with Woodi. This just seems to be the trend nowadays with athletes and youth in general. I’m from the days of when you challenge me, I’m going to prove you wrong or die trying. If I fail, I’ll shake your hand and accept my defeat.
