'19 VA QB Brendon Clark

QB recruiting is voodoo magic. I wish we could get lucky on a little regarded 3 star that turns out to be preternaturally gifted...but we get McBride..

Haha yeah. Most of the qbs that have won the sec championship in the last 10 years have been 4 stars. Probably like someone else mentioned due to the 3 teams that have won in that stretch getting mostly higher ranked guys. I do think this kid will end up a 4 star. He looks like a very good qb prospect to me. The only thing that really matters is how they're coached and how they respond to coaching and pressure in games though. And that's nearly impossible to tell yet.

That's somewhat loaded though. The SEC is star top heavy relative to the rest football, meaning: Bama, UGA, etc, get who they want, and they want more stars. The draft stats and NFL effectiveness are far better indication of the actual quality of the QB. The point remains, service rankings of QBs are a far poorer indicator than service rankings of other position groups. Pruitt says he doesn't need a service to tell him who is or is not a good football player. Until it has been proven otherwise, I'm inclined to believe him.

A Lower Rated QB with good mechanics can do great with quality coaching and a dominant O-Line.

JG nor McBride had that last year.

I think it also has a lot to do with the mental game. As you move up in the football food chain, a QB's mind becomes increasingly important. Services are looking at physical traits (I'm guessing) more than mental traits. Guys like Vince Young have the physical traits to overcome the mental issues at a lower level, but get exposed at higher levels. The college game is not as dependent on brain as NFL, but certainly more so than high school.

Watched replay of UCLA and Memphis. Rosen reminds me Bray, but bigger. Shrout reminds me of Bray, but faster. Here's hoping Shrout can be next in line of great Cali QBs.

Noticed his rivals and 247 pages have his soph film up which is pretty good. But hudl has the junior tape and it was impressive. I'm definitely not a film buff but IMO he has a strong arm and a good feel for when to put touch on it. Seems pretty accurate, though it is a highlight film. And he is plenty quick and elusive to escape pressure and move the chains. He had 688 yards and 12 tds on the ground junior year to go along with 2,006 yards passing on 60.7% completion percentage with 28 tds and 4 ints. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy starts blowing up.

He sounds like a Heath Schuler clone. If Cut likes him that’s enough for me he’s the best QB coach UT has ever had . I would love to get this kid in UT Orange !

You got me thinking...

Quick quiz:

Name the last 5* SEC QB to get drafted in the first 3 rounds.

Not SEC but Winston from FSU is 5 Star to get drafted and so was Deshaun Watson from Clemson.

I certainly get your point, a 5 Star prospect isn’t necessarily a future college star and NFL first round pick.

You're right, I was thinking Coker was a *4 but he was a *3 on every service. Guess I just assumed him being at Fla St then Ala that he was ranked higher.

Yep, he’s the one, but Bama had an amazing team around him on both sides of the ball. He didn’t have to be the man.

Drew Brees - unrated
Ben Roethlisberger - 19th ranked qb just like this kid
Eli Manning - 17th ranked
Philip Rivers - unrated
Aaron Rodgers - Zero Stars
Alex Smith - Zero Stars
Matt Ryan - 3 Stars
Joe Flacco - 3 Stars
Andy Dalton - 3 Stars
Kirk Cousins - 3 Stars
Nick Foles - 3 Stars
Russell Wilson - 2 Stars
Derek Carr - 3 Stars
Carson Wentz - No Stars
Dak Prescott - 3 Stars
Marcus Mariota - 3 Stars
Mitchell Trubisky - 3 Stars
Jimmy Garoppolo - 2 Stars

Other than maybe Nick Foles (who just won a Super Bowl and should probably start for somebody) All of those are projected starters in the NFL who started games last year. That is 17, or 18 if you count Foles, starting qbs in the NFL that are 3 star or lower. So at least half the league. There are a lot of super bowl winners on that list. And a ton of production. Most of that list has either already had a great career or is pretty established as a franchise qb with enough experience in the league to project a long successful career as a starting qb.

I agree with this sentiment.

But the caveat is that I don’t really care if our QBs are successful in the NFL or not if they don’t win a lot of games for us.

I’d take a Tim Tebow over an Aaron Rodgers any day.

But which one is the better QUARTERBACK? We’re trying to “excite” Train, so be honest. :)

First of all, gross. And B, did any of that list have bad college careers. Coming up with a college list is more work than I'm willing to do, and nfl success is a pretty good indication that they probably had college success. I didn't even include guys like Bortles and Tannehill because there are more questions about their long term future but I do think Bortles will be a good QB in the league for a long time. I do have bias there though so I left him off.

You’d rather take a QB that’s not even on an NFL roster than one that’s considered one of the best QBs in the league right now?
