The question continues to be where will Tennessee go at the quarterback position. Tennessee offered QB Brendon Clark (Wake Forest commit) late last week. At this point, Clark is still heavily committed to the Demon Deacons, but with his recruitment seeing a recent spike (UT, Clemson offered recently, with Notre Dame and Michigan circling), Clark is at least considering some summer visits.
Youd rather take a QB thats not even on an NFL roster than one thats considered one of the best QBs in the league right now?
First of all, gross. And B, did any of that list have bad college careers. Coming up with a college list is more work than I'm willing to do, and nfl success is a pretty good indication that they probably had college success. I didn't even include guys like Bortles and Tannehill because there are more questions about their long term future but I do think Bortles will be a good QB in the league for a long time. I do have bias there though so I left him off.
My only point is Id rather have a great CFB QB than a great NFL QB. Youre right to point out that those things arent mutually exclusive, though.
I get it, but my point is that BIG ORANGE TRAIN is worried about this guy's low rating and it may not be as big a deal as they're making it. I think we can agree that the best qb's in the world play in the NFL. And I was showing that over half of the best starting qbs in the world currently were rated equal or lower to this guy coming out of HS. Another example is A&M. Kevin Sumlin is a pretty good offensive coach. He had as many 5 star qbs as anybody in the nation the past few years. The only qb that ever really worked for him was a 3 star Johnny Manziel. I'm not saying this kid is the best prospect this year. Just that he seems to have all the tools and measurables to be a good qb and ranking QBs is a little bit of a crapshoot at every level. So the fact that he's not a 5 star in his junior year is probably not a big deal BIG ORANGE TRAIN.
So Pruitt offers a 3*, because he knows what a good football player looks like, and:
a) Other P5 schools offer and eventually recruit gets bumped to 4*. Pruitt is a genius.
b) Nobody of consequence offers and recruit stays 3*. Pruitt can't recruit and is settling.
Is that basically correct?
Brendon Clark has been committed to Wake Forest for nearly a year, but the 2019 quarterback from Midlothian Manchester (Va.) has seen his recruitment spike recently following an impressive performance at the Nike Opening Regional Camp in Charlotte. Clark earned MVP honors among a solid group of quarterbacks, with both Tennessee and Clemson quickly taking notice.
The Vols were also impressed with Clarks junior film, extending a scholarship to the 6-foot-2, 209-pound quarterback earlier this week. (My recruitment) is blowing up a little bit, Clark told VolQuest. A lot of people are coming in to watch me throw.
Clemson offered this week, too, and Notre Dame stopped by to see Clark on Tuesday. Michigan is also actively recruiting the Virginia native. Clark said his high school coach expects others schools to join the fray soon, too.
So far, Clark described his communication with Tennessees staff as moderate, saying hes talked with offensive coordinator Tyson Helton and tight ends Brian Niedermeyer multiple times. The Vols are pushing for a visit, but Clark remains solidly committed to the Deamon Decons and wants to discuss any summer plans with his family first.
I havent really thought about any of that just yet, said Clark on visiting Tennessee, Clemson or anywhere else. Im still committed and I dont want to just burn that off with Wake Forest by taking visits or anything like that.
In 2017, Clark led the Lancers to a 11-2 record, throwing for more than 2000 yards with 28 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also added 600 yards and 12 scores on the ground. Hes a big, athletic quarterback, who described his game by saying, I like to say Im a Tim Tebow who can throw from the pocket.
Def sounds like a take then
Not SEC but Winston from FSU is 5 Star to get drafted and so was Deshaun Watson from Clemson.
I certainly get your point, a 5 Star prospect isnt necessarily a future college star and NFL first round pick.
The chance of a higher ranked guy turning out good is much better. No debate.
