2/9/11, Carolina vs. Duke: Round 1

An incredible game to attend. Definitely one of my top 3 Duke wins over UNC that I have attended. It wasn't quite as good as the '98 game where Duke came back from 17 down w/ 8 to go on Wojo's senior day, but not far behind. Tonight was probably the loudest I have heard Cameron in a very long time. Tonight the students got back to their old 1990's form, even the old folks got involved.

Carolina did not choke. Duke was not ready play in the first half and a lot of that had to do w/ UNC taking them out of their game. Once the Plumlees' and Kelly decided to rebound and play D it allowed Smith and Curry to take over offensively. UNC is a good basketball team, much better than I thought. Kendall Marshall is the real deal and UNC will be a tough out in the NCAA's. It will be interesting to see what adjustments both teams make for the game in Chapel Hill. Also, Nolan Smith should be a serious contender for NPOY and definitely a 1st team All-American. He has turned into a special player.

Oh by the way, I am not a bandwagon Duke fan. I have lived in Raleigh/Durham my entire life (other than my 3 in Knoxville) and my family had season tickets for over 20 years. I just wanted to make that clear in case anyone wanted to put me in that group. I really hope that if any of you ever have the opportunity to go to a Duke/UNC game in Cameron you go. It is definitely one of the great scenes in sports.

Never been to Cameron, but what should one expect to pay for a Duke/Carolina ticket at Cameron?

Quality post. I don't care for your team, nor did I like tonight's outcome, but I respect you nonetheless. Pretty evenly matched teams. Smith was the difference. Rematch March 5th at The Dean Dome.

Another question...is Irving done for the year?

the cast was removed last Friday, but it's still up in the air whether he'll play this season or not. If he does, it probably won't be until tournament time. Winning the ACC would be nice, but if they merely use it to get him used to playing and then bring him back full time in the Big Dance, I'd put them back as the heavy favorite to win it all.

And for all the bandwagon garbage, I've been loyal to Duke since I was about 8 or 9 years old and idolized Bobby Hurley. I'm pretty sure my case for being a true Duke fan would be verified (while maybe not accepted) by the older members of this board.

Honestly, it is a very expensive ticket. I was lucky that I was able to get a free one. Last week on stubhub the lowest I found was around $500 or $600.

I appreciate it Reg. I am not very fond of your team either, but I do have a great deal of respect for UNC basketball and yourself. I have a feeling the game in March will be very different. It should be interesting. Honestly, I'm still not over the bowl game. Still sick over it.

So being up by 14 at the half (yes I forgot Duke hit a shot to cut it to 14 before the half my apologies) and then getting outscored 50-30 in the 2nd doesn't equal a choke job?

Duke shooting roughly 30% in the first half and finally having shots fall in the 2nd half does not qualify as a choke job on UNC's part, no.

Crowd looked intense! If I win the lottery or strike it big in Vegas during final four weekend, I'll attend a game in the next few years :)

the best rebutal I've found that will shut those idiots up is to just agree with them. just tell them you've been a Duke fan for the past 5 minutes. agreeing with them just pisses them off even more. :)

i don't see irving making it back this year. it seems to be one of those injuries that, if tweaked, would result in another long set back. we've got enough tallent to defend our title as it is. sure, a healthy kyrie would help, but don't jeopardize the next 2-3 years with 2-3 games.

Disagree. Without Kyrie Irving, our offense pretty much consists of passing around the perimeter and jacking up threes, and then eventually Singler will make a few and Smith will drive some. But we don't really have a creator sans Irving, and our posts don't do much of anything without one.

A lot of dook bandwagon fans on here all of a sudden.

We moved to Charlotte back in '97 and the UNC fans I met at school and around town were so intolerable I became a Duke fan just to spite them. While I started out as a bandwagon fan, I did stick with them and have followed the team ever since. Coach K in my opinion is one of, if not the, best coach in the nation. He does more with less than any coach I've ever seen. On the game last night:

I thought UNC played them hard but unfortunately for them they aren't quite there yet, the talent is there but they have to learn how to close out a game like that. Should be another fun game to watch in March.

that's cool I understand that. It's just the opposite for me though, when I moved here in 98 the dook fans were the one's that drove me nuts. I like UNC better than Dook, but When it comes to Tennessee I could give a rats azz about either one of them...

And since my Fanhood of the LA Lakers has been questioned twice by people who don't know me from the hole in their heads.

I grew up in Anahiem CA. The HS coach I played for was the one that really got me into watching the Lakers. One of my all time players was Kurt Rambus. He was a hard nose player that they sent in when they needed rebounds and to turn the tide of a game.

I was watching them way before there ever was a 3 point line. If that makes me a bandwagon fan, then like BPV I wear it proudly. :good!:

so how is that any different than me being a fan for 20+ years because I idolized Bobby Hurley? I have family all over the state of NC and I'm actually stationed there now. You could have chosen the Clippers, but you decided to be a bandwagonner and pull for a winner. Worse yet, you want to be d-bag about anyone that's a Duke fan. Pot meet kettle.

not sure why my rebuttal was removed, but I'll say it again. All I did was make a comment, it wasn't directed at anyone, but you feel the need for personal attacks??? That's the difference and proves my point about Dook fans.

I'm in the middle. My loyalties are with both Duke and the Lakers. Reasons are because I had a serious man crush on Redick and I was a very young guy when Kobe and Shaq started the dynasty in Los Angeles. I stuck with them through the Kobe "selfish" years and Rudy T's brief era.

I'll make room for you on the Lakers wagon. Tons of room. :salute:
