2/9/11, Carolina vs. Duke: Round 1

not sure why my rebuttal was removed, but I'll say it again. All I did was make a comment, it wasn't directed at anyone, but you feel the need for personal attacks??? That's the difference and proves my point about Dook fans.

Liar. You directly quoted me, calling me a bandwagon fan.

lol, glad those bandwagon fans spoke up.

I did not.

the mods may have deleted my post, but they did not delete your post, quoting me and saying another one speaks out. In the context of the conversation, you called me another bandwagon fan. You can pretend like you were calling me another d-bag, but you know you weren't. Funny sig btw, too bad anyone that actually pays attention knows I'm no troll. get over yourself.

Where in the hell is your name in there???

Dude you are taking this way to serious you must be feeling guilty about being one. <--- there that the 1st time I called you one.

How about both of you get on the PM bandwagon and continue this in private?

Coach K in my opinion is one of, if not the, best coach in the nation. He does more with less than any coach I've ever seen.

While I agree that Coach K is a phenomenal coach, stating that he "does more with less than any coach I've ever seen" is absolutely hilarious. 99% of the coaches in the nation would be happy to have as many McDonalds All-Americans on their entire roster as Coach K gets in one recruiting class. He's a great coach. However, he isn't doing "more with less talent" than anybody. His teams are loaded with talent.

Last year's UNC team (that missed the tourney) had more McDonald's All-Americans on it than the national champions from Duke did...just saying

...and that changes my previous statement how, exactly? It doesn't.

However, regarding last year's UNC team, they were a very talented, but extremely young team that was cursed by an unbelievable amount of turnovers largely due to a hideous point guard. That point guard is now no longer on the team having abandoned his team in the middle of the conference season.

Um...if your stated measure of "talent" is McDonald's All-Americans, and you're saying that Coach K doesn't do more with less talent than anyone else does, then the fact that Roy Williams had more talent (by your measure) and didn't win the national title, much less even make the giant field of 65, that would seem to directly contradict the point you were making...

When's the last time K missed the tourney?

Talented freshmen and sophomores don't mean squat in college basketball if your point guard sucks. Even with a good point guard they usually aren't as important as having talented upperclassmen, which Duke had but Carolina didn't.

As I said previously, Coach K is a phenomenal coach. If you ask me, he's the best coach in college basketball. Nevertheless, trying to argue that he's doing it without phenomenal talent is totally asinine. Equally asinine is picking one school out of all of Division 1 college basketball, and arguing that they had more McDonalds All-Americans, when I clearly stated that Duke had more McDonalds All-Americans than 99% of the teams in college basketball.

How many national championship teams had zero players taken in the ensuing draft? That's phenomenal talent right there...

It's just really funny to me that you're acting like Coach K is merely doing what's expected with his "phenomenal talent," when one can easily look at the other bench and see that Roy Williams is doing absolutely nothing with his.

Yes. Roy is just doing absolutely nothing with his 2 national championships in the last six years. Leave it to a pretentious Dukie wannabe to argue a ridiculous point like that with someone that is already stating that Coach K is the best coach in college basketball.

Not sure what you're trying to say that I "want to be," but I'd love to hear it. So you think Scheyer, Singler, Zoubek, etc. were as talented as Lawson, Ellington, and Hansbrough? Or May, McCants, and Felton? Yeah, Coach K really had comparable phenomenal talent with all those NBA players on his team...

OBTW, pretty sure you're the one that started arguing the "ridiculous point" saying that K has McD's AAs all over the place and phenomenal talent. There is nooooo way that team was the most talented in the nation, more talented than 99% of the others, or whatever other ridiculous statement you want to make next.

McDonald's AAs since 2000: UNC 22 Duke 21
NCAA Titles since 2000: UNC 2 Duke 2

I'd say either of these teams regularly have more talent than 99.9% of college basketball. Coach K has a number of McD's AAs that never won the title either. Let's not pretend Duke is some mid-major that routinely beats the big boys. They have a talent advantage over most any team they face.

How did Duke ever win last year with only six McD's AAs? Maybe the soft bracket had something to do with it.

it hurts to agree with a 'Heel, but come man. Zoubek was barely considered a role player until he started rebounding 3/4 the way into the season. Singler had a good chance of getting drafted if he'd left last year. Duke was a young team last year that didn't graduate any of their top talent.

Duke consistently rakes in top recruits and thus Duke has had continued success. Trying to make the argument that Duke doesn't have top talent is just silly.

That team last year was nowhere near as "phenomenally talented" as your friend is making it out to be. Henderson left, Williams transferred and the remaining guards were a guy that's currently out of basketball, a future second-round pick and Jordan Davidson. Watching them, their discipline was the first thing you noticed, not their talent.

the guy "currently out of basketball" was a high school All American, Illinois Mr. Basketball and a college All American.

So in summary

1) UNC and Duke have more talent than everyone else that they play against.
2) Thus, with #1 being true, Duke and UNC should never lose a game since they are more talented than anyone else.

Did I miss anything?

the "future second-round pick" is starting to get Naismith Player of the Year consideration and some have him as a lottery pick. Your argument is falling apart fast.

I think the initial argument concerned the number of McD's AAs on each team. Scheyer, Smith, Singler, Kelly, Thomas, and Plumlee all meet the criteria, regardless of their actual impact in the college game. If you want to go with the "ifs and buts" argument, I have the following concerning last year's UNC team:

Injuries: Ed Davis, Tyler Zeller, Wear twins, Marcus Ginyard
Overrated: Wear twins
Overrated/Team Cancer: Larry Drew II

But, I digress.

Anybody that pays attention to basketball knew that Duke is always loaded with McDonalds All-Americans, but thanks for posting the stats. Maybe now the Dukie wannabe will realize Coach K isn't winning games with kids picked up at the local YMCA.
