I'm just going off his track record at the other schools he coached. They all became winners. Hopefully so will UT.

i wouldn't get all excited about that until we see what he can do when he plays in the big leagues.

IMO...we need to at least give him (Clawson & other newbies) that opportunity before declaring the sky is falling....at present....there is every indication...he will be a good OC

If you haven't yet figured out that Mike Hamilton is a dimwit, welcome to Tennessee athletics.

Yeah, the whole revitalizing the basketball program idea has worked out horribly. I'm sure if we brought another AD in here, he'd fire our NC winning, 76% winning percentage football coach in a second.

there was a lot more at play than hamilton there, but he took all the credit. if you want to give it all to him, fine. but i know better.

i'm not saying he's going to be bad, nor am i assuming he'll be good. i'm completely on the fence until i see him in action.

Seeing as how you are blaming a subpar recruiting class on Mike Hamilton, I have little interest in what you know.

sad when that sort of mediorcre program outdoes a school with our legacy in recruiting. that said, let's see how this translates into points on the field. i'm certainly not ready to concede that clemson will be the better team anytime soon.

Clemson has been mediocre lately, but historically, they're not. Clemson right now is about where Tennessee was in the early 1980s, or Jawja was in the Ray Goof years. We came out of that rut, and I think they will, too.

UT has a history of alternating top classes and average ones, and we were due for an average one. It's not really a bad class, anyway. If you look at the way those ratings are compiled, a lot of schools are ahead of us because they have 30 commitments, many from marginal prospects. We have less than 20, and with EJAW on board, an average of over three stars per man. Fulmer wasn't going to waste scholarships getting bulk numbers just to boost this year's class. We could sign a dozen more two-star guys and move way up, if we wanted to.

You don't get players who can help you win, you put the schollies in your pocket for next year, and attract more interest because the kids know you actually need them and they can compete for immediate playing time. That's one reason why we alternate big recruiting years.

It's not a great class, but I'd rather have this class than one with 15 guys who are going to be dead weight for three years.

Regardless, it took guts to fire Peterson knowing we were going to get panned for it.

I see nothing to make me think Hamilton doesn't know his business.

I've read some quotes today from some recruits that said the coaching changes AND the recent "off the field" problems were factors in many decisions.

Fellas, I continue to be amazed at how negative we can be. OK, I get it, Alabama (vomit) has a world beater class. Other SEC teams have put it to us, and we are most definitely Clemson's biatch this year. But come on- Tennessee plays in the toughest division of the toughest conference every season, and has done so since CPF started here as Head Coach. Still, he's a winner, and so is Tennessee. Some picked us 4th (most 3rd) in the East last year, and WE WON IT. We beat the living crap out of Georgia, everyone's favorite "this was really the best team in the world in '07 and maybe they should have played in the title game" team, and we gave the National Champion LSU Tigers all they wanted in Atlanta. So, to all my bretheren, sack up, quit whining, appreciate what you have year in and year out, and support our program. I'm disappointed too, but my hatred for Alabama will motivate me to move on.

OHHHHHHHH, silly me, almost beating LSU is good enough. Boy, is my face red, this whole time I thought the goal was to actually win. I also had no idea that beating UGA made up for getting the crap kicked out of us by Bama and UF. So now that I know one win over a rival makes up for two losses, well, life's alot easier now.

Come on now. How many of the current offensive staff had a hand in those defeats? Give the new guys a chance.

agree that he isn't completely unredeemable, but he's got a lot of strikes against him that just don't balance out the hit of getting rid of peterson and hiring pearl(which, as i've mentioned before, should not be solely credited to him).

Mamas don't like criminals and we'd be fools to think that Southern mamas don't have a hand in this process.

Rexvol, sorry to make it personal, but since you puked up more negative crap on here, here goes. Yes, it is acceptable to almost beat LSU. Don't hold yourself out there as "the voice of reason" if you are just another idiot who expects to win every single game every single year. Yes, of course winning is the ultimate goal- thanks for that amazing insight, but in today's incredibly competitive environment you can only ask for your team to prepare to the best of their abilities and fight like hell to the best of their abilities. You can't and won't win every game. Yes, the performances against UF and UA left much to be desired, but at least in part it's good coaching that gets a season like that turned around, which CPF et al did. A 10 win season is quite acceptable to me and any other fan who is realistic about the level of play out there today. I hope just like you that we win every time, and I hope for another national title, but even the mighty Gators dropped 4 last year with the Heisman Trophy winner on the the team. It's tough out there man, so get a grip and appreciate the great program you've been enjoying and stop complaining when every game is not a W and every recruit is not rated 5*.
