Rexvol, sorry to make it personal, but since you puked up more negative crap on here, here goes. Yes, it is acceptable to almost beat LSU. Don't hold yourself out there as "the voice of reason" if you are just another idiot who expects to win every single game every single year. Yes, of course winning is the ultimate goal- thanks for that amazing insight, but in today's incredibly competitive environment you can only ask for your team to prepare to the best of their abilities and fight like hell to the best of their abilities. You can't and won't win every game. Yes, the performances against UF and UA left much to be desired, but at least in part it's good coaching that gets a season like that turned around, which CPF et al did. A 10 win season is quite acceptable to me and any other fan who is realistic about the level of play out there today. I hope just like you that we win every time, and I hope for another national title, but even the mighty Gators dropped 4 last year with the Heisman Trophy winner on the the team. It's tough out there man, so get a grip and appreciate the great program you've been enjoying and stop complaining when every game is not a W and every recruit is not rated 5*.
just to play devil's advocate here...
i think the people that are so frustrated with losses to lsu, florida and the like feel that the coaches and players aren't performing to the best of their ability. while we have little to compare the players to when they come to UT (h.s. and college is like apples and oranges), we know Fulmer is capable of amazing performances. some just feel the bar is no longer set that high, either for him or for the kids and that mediocrity (albeit by the very high standards of spoiled UT football fans) is becoming the status quo.
sure you can't win every game, but your chances are a whole hell of a lot better when you're REALLY trying.
i like what coach summit said about her job after the loss at stanford, "my job is to raise the bar every day." she actually lives by that statement. we could use a lot more of that attitude on the football side. i'm only half kidding when i say she should coach the football team. i think even as an advisor, a motivational speaker, her perspective and attitute would be invaluable to the team.
