'20 VA C Dylan Cardwell

TIFWIW Galilee posted on VQ that Springer and Cardwell are apparently buddies and have been in contact
If this is true, I say take 'em both. I love Hall, but like I've said many times, getting Cardwell wouldn't hurt my feelings. Totally, differentnt games and I'm coming around to Cardwell being a better fit with Springer, Keon and Walker. I think Springer is still a Vol lock, although if adding his good buddy Cardwell would guarantee it, give me both, a top 5 recruiting class and all that Final 4 talent

Both would be great. I don't know how realistic it is, but it's nice to think about

The fact that we are even having this discussion is great

I wouldn't mind that. With the talent we are about to sign, I think we'll have more frequent roster turn over due to early departures to the draft so the concern about having so much talent in a single class all leaving at once isn't such a worry. If we can get both, take 'em. We're bound to have kids transfer out when they recognize the playing time won't be there for them.

Tennessee has cancelled PJ Hall’s official visit scheduled for this weekend, per VQ.
Disappointing, but I'm guessing Barnes and Co. felt uneasy about their position with Hall and decided a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I'd venture to guess it's a matter of hours on Cardwell, and that is hardly just a consolation prize.

That escalated quickly - Appears CRB grew weary of waiting on Hall?

Hard to believe that the program has reached the point that a player of DC’s caliber is the plan B.

I have to think that maybe after spending time with Cardwell he climbed up the board a bit...they already knew his game so I don’t think it was as if they decided he was a better player, but I think maybe chemistry wise or something they felt like they wanted him here. Hall visited VT last weekend and didn’t commit, by all accounts Tennessee was still in it, at this point we are only about 16 hours from Hall being here, so I don’t think bringing him in would’ve hurt their chances with Cardwell.

Like I just replied to Chris, I don’t know that they were sick of waiting...Hall and family would’ve been here in about 16 hours, and Cardwell has no other visits scheduled so I doubt he was saying he was deciding tonight no matter what. I think Hall could’ve visited still and Tennessee make a decision Sunday based on feelings after the visit, the fact they aren’t waiting or allowing the visit to happen makes me think Cardwell passed up Hall on their board...or at the very least drew even.

Come on down Dylan Cardwell
I'm slightly disappointed, but within the week, Springer and Cardwell commit, imo. I will be ecstatic. Damn, what a class, Keon and Walker, too. Top 5 recruiting class locked up. I think Cardwell, easily ends up a consensus top 100 kid, possibly top 75, when it's all said and done

Not sure with those 4 it’ll be Top 5.

edit: last 3 years it would’ve finished 8, 7 and 8.

Definitely an odd situation. Maybe Springer put in a word for Cardwell as his personal preference, as Galilee suggested they may be tight?

Really, other than Duke and Kentucky, who else ? UNC ?
Yes, UNC has 3 five star commits and aren’t done. Other teams also aren’t done, like I said the score from this class would’ve finished 8, 7 and 8 the last 3 years. Maybe this year the talent spreads out more and so that’s not the case, but historically speaking it likely won’t finish Top 5 unless: talent spreads out, Cardwell gets a bump, we add another body in the spring.

Your theory is reasonable. Recruiting is fluid and however the process unfolded it appears we’re getting DC. If indeed we get both DC and Springer then it may be UT’s all time best recruiting class, certainly top 3. Based on the talent level we’ve been signing vaulting up to this level in one year is simply amazing. If CRB wasn’t in charge then I’d be worried about the NCAA showing up. Go VOLS!

That’s possible, I doubt Barnes would allow passing on a guy he desperately wants because a recruit says so though...if that was the difference then they were neck and neck anyways imo.

One thing Cardwell may bring that I'm not sure Hall would, is a bit of attitude and edge. Admiral had that, too. Every team needs it, and perhaps Barnes felt like this class lacked it.

it was the ultimate combination of timing the success to perfectly align with relationships...when he got the job here he started recruiting Springer, Johnson, Walker, Josiah James and others...they were super early on those guys. As they became sophomores and juniors those guys start seeing exactly what Barnes has been selling and turning into a national brand...so you’ve got the best relationship with this staff, and now they’re a legitimate Top 10-15 program nationally, so why not go there?

I find it weird that Barnes wouldn't at least bring Hall to campus when we're mere hours away from his official visit starting. I guess they really felt like Hall must have been slipping, but still, what harm does having him here for a few days cause, especially considering that Cardwell probably wouldn't mind being told to wait just a couple of days to announce.

Either way, Cardwell is still a solid addition. Probably solidifies us as only Top 10 instead of Top 5. Hard to believe a class with 3 5-Stars will be only Top 10, but that just goes to show how important numbers are over quality.

Cardwell and Keon will rise. Still, think we end up damn close to top 5. Right now, 4th is my prediction. Maybe teams that can take 5 or 6 players may pass us, but if u take every team's top 4, no doubt UT would be top 5. Either way, I'm mothereffing ecstatic if those 4 end up being Vols

That's what I was driving at. If after DC's visit, he climbed the board a bit, then maybe Springer's opinion of him and the idea he was ready to commit were the tipping point.

Or Barnes didn’t cancel the visit...Hall did
