2008 Titans

So did the NFL ever actually acknowledge any wrongdoing by the officials on the non delay of game call, or are they just acting like it never happened? Also, did anyone ever actually see a replay of the play in the endzone with Flacco, because I swear he stepped on that back line, but CBS never saw fit to even show us a replay of that one.

I already mentioned the ESPN proving a non-safety, and here's the refs talking about the playclock thing:

ESPN - Referee explains non-calls that helped Ravens - AFC South

it's kinda odd...maybe even a "my bad"

unless the play clock was mounted on the blimp in the air above the stadium, and the blimp was flying so the back judge was forced to have his back turned to the ball in order to watch the clock, then their explanation falls flat to me. the ravens were at least a full second late snapping the ball, and i know it doesn't take that long to shift your gaze from one point to another.

Well, I've said it to every other team this season, so I might as well say it to my own.

Tough loss Titans. Though the season ended on a dismal and controversial note. But all in all it was a great season, especially for a team that was expected to only finish 5-11at the season's start. We saw a future playmaker develop and if the team's core can stay together there can be some future hope for the next few seasons. Hopefully they add some more playmakers on offense. Best of luck in the offseason and good luck next year against - unfortunately - a stronger AFC South and AFC in general. Great season guys

it's a "my bad" statement. The blogger gives his idea to solve the problem here

ESPN - A simple solution to 'natural delay' - AFC South

that's a pretty good idea the blogger suggests. another action that needs to possibly be taken is to make situations like that reviewable. if the titans had been able to challenge that play, it would have been overturned after a 10 second look. for the most part, coaches aren't going to waste their challenges on something so trivial, so it would rarely be an issue, unless it was truly of epic importance like last night. it's similar to what is done in basketball, they have acknowledged that there is going to be some human error when it comes to those split second decisions with buzzer beaters, so they simply allow the officials to review the play if the situation warrrants it.

i guess i am from the mindset of if isn't broken don't fix it and we seemed to have a pretty good defense this year. but if he does go, who do you suggest we hire in his place?

Dave McGinnis.

My money is on Williams though, and that's not too bad of a selection.

Good luck to Schwartz in Detroit. After 5 wins in 2 years he'll be sent packing like the rest of the coaches. I'm sure the Lions' fans will be happy with his conservative defensive style.

we do have a good defense right now and i just don't want to see a drop off. they were one of the reasons why we did as well as we did this year, even as banged up as our dline was.

How good was the defense 2-3 years ago? Just because Albert Haynesworth decided to be a force it improved our whole defensive line. Schwartz relies too much on the front 4.

That's ridiculous. Schwartz did an incredible job with this defense. If you think we can do better than him, you will be disappointed.

I would have to say a large part of that is his personnel seeing as how you never really heard his name before this year much.

The Titans played great on every side of the football...defense was fierce, the run game in the first half was unstoppable (until CJ got hurt and they put in Lendale "Fumble" White), offense had over 300 yards and the special teams gave great field position. The thing that hurt was the turnovers. White is notorious for fumbling inside the 20 yard line. I believe he needs to learn how to hold a ball correctly instead of trying to do all these stupid moves. Crumpler's fumble didn't help matters either but it wasn't just his fault. The penalties and the "lack of penalties hurt the Titans.

Yeah - the Crumpler hit reminded me of the Anderson fumble in the 6-3 Alabama game in '05... just a great play... the White fumble - not so much.

If you've got a front 4 like the Titans had this year, you'd be crazy not to rely on it. The Titans could get pressure with that front 4 on a regular basis. When that happens, there's no reason to be blitzing.

Lets be honest. The Titans were lucky to be in the position they were in at the end of the season. While they roundly beat most of their opponents in the first half of the season, they were also lucky their division was as weak as it has been in several years. The win at Baltimore was as lucky as Baltimore's win here in Nashville. Think they are going to beat Pittsburgh most of the time? Or Indianapolils for that matter?

Considering they were without their best defensive player against Pittsburgh, I'd have a hard time calling that a lucky win.

His back-up played a phenomenal game. I never said they were lucky to beat Pittsburgh. I asked if you thought they would beat Pittsburgh most of the time. The answer is no unless your too biased to be objective. Pittsburgh is generally better than the Titans.

Thanks for the clarification. I had been wandering through the wilderness all of my life under the impression that the Steelers franchise was behind the Oilers/Titans as far as being competitive through the years.

you could take the titans, steelers and ravens and change uniforms on each and you basically have teh same teams give or take a player here or there.

they all have the same philosophy. they all execute it well. they all play defense and generally have physical offensive lines.

which is why whenever they play each other, most times, it's a close game.

If you're talking about this year and this year only - then that deserves a laugh and a stern Wrong.
