2008 Titans

Draft's deep at WR but i dunno if at 30 the playmakers will still be available. Sans costly cuts, this might be the year to get the reliable big catch WR rather than the fast playmaker WR..... (Maclin and Harvin will probably both be gone at this point)

Course the titans would actually have to draft a WR first

The draft hasn't really worked out well for us on receivers. Maybe we pick someone up in free agency. I truely hope we plan to upgrade the receiver position this year. The cheap game is getting old. Bud is smart, but the people of nashville will eventually wake up from their bandwagon haze and realize that bud's been cheap since moving here.

The wr pick is always a big gamble. I don't see us picking a wr first in the draft, especially if we don't resign Haynesworth. Everything I have heard points to us going for a speed wr in round 2 or 3. The Titans were impressed with what an added dimension of speed did for us in the run game and would like to do the same in the passing game if the right guy is there.

They'll have to pay for a game changing receiver. The question is will they pony up for him? If there is someone left in the 2 or 3rd round that fits that description i'd be surprised.

He doesn't have to be a game changer. The Johnson pick was looked at as a reach at the time. He would have been a mid 2nd round pick at best. All the Titans really need to do here is find a receiver with better than average speed to loosen things up down field a bit, give them the long threat and open up the underneath stuff.

Nothing has worked well with this team and WRs

High in the draft brings to mind the not-so-NFL careers of Joey Kent, Kevin Dyson (passing on moss too), and Tyrone Calico

Free Agency WRs has produced the not-so-stellar seasons of Yancy Thigpen, Carl Pickens (injured and out early), David Givens (season-ending before he even saw the field) and of course Justin "I can't catch" McCairens...

The team has a terrible history with WRs in the last 10 years and I really think that has led to this staff - who's been here that entire time - being afraid to take that risk unless they have all other needs filled

Plus what will happen -as always - is Reinfeldt will let someone good on the team walk because he doesn't want to pay the higher salary they ask for, saying they "won't find a better deal" - which they always do - and that will become our draft priority in April

There's also really not anyone major in FA this year...since the amount of the yearly salary cap increase was raised back in 05 or 06, teams are more able to keep their big playmakers on board longer...i.e. you dont see anymore big time FA WRs out in the open market.

They can maybe find a decent 2 guy, but they wont find any #1 WRs unless they're willing to pay up big in a trade...with probably giving up more draft picks than they'd have to to trade up in the draft

I don't really see anyone past the first round of the draft that could come in and immediately help at wr.
If we want that guy we will have to pay. Offer them vince and cash or something. Kerry collins had a good year, but can he have two in a row? Thats another question that kind of worry's me. He looked like he got tired late in the year, not as sharp, not as crisp with his passes. The offense got them beat this year, hopefully they upgrade and give themselves a better shot next year. I'd like to stay up for a couple of years, regressing sucks.

Vince really cant be traded though - and not for the "he's our future qb" thing. His contract is so much cap (with his salary, incentives, etc) that not only would he eat up a huge chunk of salary cap wherever he was going but we'd have a pretty big cap penalty the following season.

Of course too, b/c of how he is now, vince young isnt a trade block get big offers guy...more than likely he'd have to be thrown in with a couple of draft picks and then it would be the draft picks that would determine how good a player we got back in return...

The offense got them beat this year in the sense that w/o chris johnson, they became completely ineffective. And that needs to be fixed, most likely at the WR spot.

And I hate to say this, but we've overachieved for the last 3 years, making the playoffs twice and just missing it another time....they're kinda due for an underachieving season in the next year or two, it's the way this league works

All depends on who we lose on the defense and if we can get this o-line back. We could have another solid year if those things happen. We may not go 13-3 again, but we could actually become a better team offensively. Probably going to take a step back defensively, i guess it all depends on who fisher hires and if we resign albert. Albert being the number one factor in all that. I hope if we pay him the money, he'll stay hungry and play hard.
You see it too many times when a guy gets that big contract they relax, i hope thats not the case.

Chuck Cecil will provide the perfect face of the Titans DEF's attitude. Expect a lot of referrences to Cecil's playin' days whenever a Titans defender makes a big hit, cuz announcers and the media will be all over that.

A big thing that may go unnoticed will be the likely new DB Coach Marcus Robertson. This past season was Robertson's 1st season working with the DB's as the asst. DB's Coach, and he helped young players like Finny and Griff really find what they do best and develop their identity. Not only that, but he's looked highly upon by everyone in the organization, including Bud Adams. Robertson has a very, very bright future!

Not surprising. It is interesting they're trying to resign chris simms. They'll more than likely move vince after next year. If i were vince i'd be looking for a way out of nashville, its highly unlikely he ever gets his starting job back here. Unless collins gets hurt, he won't see the field next year unless they put him in as some sort of slash type player. He's to brittle for that he'll get broke. He's done in nashville.

Wonder if they'll draft a QB now that they're going with Collins for the time being?
I'd say its possible, if someone is left that they consider a good pickup. Probably depends on who all we keep and who all we let get away. Young and simms is a pretty good situation, considering quality backups are hard to come by. We could see something unexpected now, like maybe a vince trade demand. That wouldn't surprise me at all.

Not the year for it. The QB class really isnt that deep and if QB is on their needs list, it's around 5th-7th place. I really dont see them taking one this year.

Also when I was looking at the ESPN article, I noticed something. Fisher really doesnt say anywhere "come back and you're the starting QB"....the only statements by him there seem to be that, at this point, he'd like to have him back as his QB in 09 and that - at this point, collins' seasonal play would make him starting qb...if the season started tomorrow or something is what it looked like

ESPN took a little liberty with altering the wording for the title i think

Do you think we wont pay the money?

I would be surprised if we did. Should have locked him up last year before he put together two great seasons in a row - would have gotten away with settling for a lesser amount that the organization would have probably paid.

Based on their past - I just don't see the organization forking out the big money for Haynesworth.

Maybe they'll surprise us.

I believe McNair was one of the only big name guys from the the early 00s that they extended/kept around when his contract was up.

Obviously McNair wasn't in as high demand as Haynesworth, but hopefully they realize how important he is to the defense and will do what it takes to keep him around, especially with the cap space they have.
