2010 Prospects

Just a highlight video. But the kid has good pocket presence and is dead on accurate at all times especially on the run. I have not seen anyone who can throw it so deep and accurate while on the run

From the new rivals article...

"I called down there to see because they can't call me and I got put in touch with coach Reaves. I wondered if it was the same coach Reaves from South Carolina and I was happy to find out that it was."

Heaps and Reaves in terms of recruiting are old buddies who have spoken to each other a lot.

"After my sophomore year, South Carolina called my coach to let him know that they were offering and my coach gave me their number," Heaps said. "I called coach Reaves and we just started talking and we have talked almost weekly since. We have a good relationship. He told me that I am a guy that Tennessee wants. I hope to talk to coach Kiffin soon. My season just finished and I am going to call coach Kiffin in a couple of weeks. I am definitely interested in Tennessee."

He is also buddies with Ainge. They used to work out together.

it kills me this kid will be going on a mission after his first year. that is almost throwing his career away.

The kid had a UT offer before Reaves joined the Vols staff.

there is a article on volquest that said he called to see if the offer was still on the table. it sounds like he's interested but how interested? i couldn't read all of the article.

Missions effect QBs the least, because so much of what makes a QB is the mental aspect.

It will take Teo 2-3 years to get back to where he was before his mission, it would only take Heap a few months.

Let me clarify, the muscles used in the throwing motion are easily isolated and targeted through weight training, so atrophy in those areas is more easily fixable than losing core strength.

This seems alot like the situation that Ben Olson was in when he was recruited. Wasn't he the all everything pocket passing qb that everyone wanted, he went on his mission, was rerecruited to UCLA and hasn't really done much of anything of note there.

Ben Olson's ego got in the way, so never developed the work ethic one needs to be successful, the talent was there. And it wasn't the mission, he struggled at BYU before his mission, which contributed to his departure.

If Heaps develops an over-inflated ego due to his recruiting rankings, then yes, he could be another Ben Olson.

A few 2010 Louisana prospects to keep an eye on

The state of Louisiana always produces a bunch of good football players, but it's not always a state that's well-known early in the process. In talking with a couple of folks that we met at the New Oreleans NIKE Combine a couple of weeks ago, here are a few more players from the Pelican State to keep an eye on for the Class of 2010.
Cornerback Todd Washington (Lutcher, La./Lutcher) totaled 80 tackles and had six interceptions this past season in leading Lutcher to the Louisiana Class 3A title. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is considered the area's top cover corner and should garner the attention of LSU and other power schools that recruit Louisiana.
Quarterback Gavin Webster (Lutcher, La./Lutcher) is Washington's teammate and is a true dual-threat signal caller that would be a great fit in a system that uses a lot of zone/read plays (new Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen should take a look here). Webster threw for 1,865 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushed for 1,125 yards and 16 touchdowns in leading Lutcher to the Class 3A title. He was also named the Most Valuable Player of the championship game and was a first-team All-State selection.
Athlete Dray Joseph (Edgard, La./West Saint John) is another talented dual-threat quarterback, but could project better in college as a safety. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder did have 23 total touchdowns during his junior season.
All-purpose athlete Reyneldo Young (Reserve, La./East Saint John) had more than 1,200 all-purpose yards, including four receiving touchdowns, two punt returns for touchdowns and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. He likely projects best as a cornerback and had three interceptions this past season. Young has been timed below 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
His teammate, quarterback Kalen Henderson (Reserve, La./East Saint John), looked impressive physically at the NIKE combine and had 880 passing yards (10 touchdowns) and 520 rushing yards (eight touchdowns) during his junior year. The 6-foot-2, 188-pounder has the size and athleticism to play on defense as well.
Bell and Jacksonville

Class of 2010 wide receiver Javon Bell (Jacksonville, Fla./Ribault) has been getting attention from a number of colleges early in the process, including Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. Bell had 29 catches for 794 yards and 14 touchdowns this past season, earning All-First Coast and All-Conference honors. Bell also plays basketball.
Speaking of Jacksonville, according to at least one college coach that recruits the city and surrounding areas, there is a lot of talent in the area in the coming classes, so look for the area to be on the upswing in terms of total number of high end Division I-A signees in the coming classes.
