2010 Prospects

Give him Memphis and Louisiana. Lots of talent in those two areas and both areas he's familiar with.

pay attention to what this guy says.......

This is a Big Board regardless of position and interest level. Kind of like an NFL draft...All of these kids are interested in Tennessee, and certainly if somebody is very interested it makes them more of a priority, but these are not all guys i am expecting us to land, just how my board would look if i was coach...I think it has a good mix of guys who we have obvious ties to, with guys who we will have to fight for, but are not out of the question. I think the last staff often spent too much time on guys who were locks to other places(legacies and such)..i think this board takes some shots downfield, while still remaining in the realm of possibility...

--------------2010 Top 25-----------------

1.DE Jacques Smith- High character kid with a great motor. I truly believe he could be a dominant force at the next level, and imo is better than any Defensive ned we are recruiting this year(including montgomery). Throw in the fact that he is an in-state kid, and he is a must get.

2. OT Robert Crisp- Franchise type LT. Physically dominant, but very athletic. Fits the Lane Kiffin mold at Tackle. Likes some of the in-state schools in NC, but is certainly interested in Tennessee. 5-Star type player...

3.LB Justin Maclin- #2 player in the state, and should be on Coach O's list of players to grab in Memphis. Very athletic LB, good amount of potential. LSU with a slight lead right now, but we are very much in it.

4.DT Evan Hailes- Needs to lose a little bit of weight, but has the potential to be jsut what O looks for in a DT. Tennessee leads, and we should be able to make a very strong play here to further our relations at Oscar Smith.

5.OT James Stone- Athletic OL who already holds some good offers from Alabama, Tennessee and Stanford. Is a full qualifier, and has a lot of potential with his athletic ability.

6.QB Phillips Sims- Sims is my #1, but you can really just throw the elite quarterbacks in a hat, because it is tough to say who will be Lane's #! target. Sims will be a high 4* and appears to have Tenn, UGA and BC out in front. UGA is the big competition, but playing would be an easy sell going up against the bulldogs. Teammate of Hailes...

7.QB/ATH Barry Brunetti- I am not sure he really fits Lane Kiffin's mold of what he wants in a QB. But Brunetti is an excellent athlete, who has the ability to play at a number of different spots. He likes the vols, and Kiffin made him a priority by going to see him on his first day on the road.

8.DE/DT Ego Ferguson- This is one of the shots down field. But Ferguson has mention the vols on his long list of schools, and would be a perfect DT for Monte's system. Ferguson is slightly undersized, but is a big strong kid who is poised to be one of the top D-Lineman in the country. Orgeron would certainly be pulling his weight if he could get Ferguson to talk a long hard look.

9.OL O.C Brown- Kid is an absolute mauler from a small school. Would likely be a Guard in Lane's system due to his size. He can pull however and runs very well for a big man. I think that O.C would be an absolute steal.

10. RB Eric Watson- Big, bruising TB from Memphis. Has not really gotten a chance to show what he can do due to consistent transfers. But should really flourish this year at Melrose. Would be a good follow-up if we could land Greg King. These two could go a long way towards improving our relations at Melrose.

11. WR Markeith Ambles- Wide Out form Georgia should be in the top 100 for next year. Did not grow up with any favorites and visited for last years florida game. Bama will be in it, as will UGA.

12.QB Jake Heaps- The real draw here is to Wash, but i am sure he will give Tennessee a serious look. I think it will be tough to get him to the south, but i am sure Lane will give it his best shot. Could be the #1 QB in the country.

13. OL Mark Shuman- Big athletic OT. Tennessee was in much better position with Latrell Scott, he had stong ties to Shuman. Even without Scott, Shuman has been on campus more than once, and is very interested in the vols. His brother plays at VT, and they would have to be considered the favorite. But if he decides he wants to carve his own path, we will be first ont he list imo.

14.Tyler Shirve/Ryan Kasdorf/Blake Bell- I look for Kiffin to go after at least one west coast Quarterback. With Pete thomas looking like a Trojan lock, these three are the best out there for the taking.

15.OL Zak Tait- could move up the board depending on how he rebounds this year. As of right now would be a good get right in our backyard.

16.WR Keiwone Malone- Best WR in-state, is looking to leave the state as of right now. It will be tough to keep him, but with a talent like him, it is certainly worth taking a temperature.

17.RB Mack Brown- Is an undeniable talent, and would be the best RB on our board. Will be tough to land him with all the powers that be in the SEC making strong plays,

18.WR Justin Hunter- Will be interesting how much Kiffin tries to keep the VA ties alive. This long lanky reciever is Kiffin's type and he likes the vols early. Is a top 250 type player.

19.TE Harrison Jones- Brother of Barrett is the best TE on our board. I dont know about him and the vols, not sure if we are what he is looking for. But i am sure Lane will try to sell him.

20.RB Dorian Cozart- Good RB in our backyard who likes Tennessee a lot. Will be interesting to see how he performs tomorrow at the All-american combine.

21.LB Kendall Moore- Burly LB has interest in Tennessee and is a member of the early rivals 250. Has not really received much contact from the new staff, and was not contacted by the old one.

22.S Ronnie Vinson- It is going to be interesting to see how much involvement Kiffin decides to have in the LA area with Orgeron on board. It is a tough spot to recruit, but if anybody can it is Ed. Vinson spent some time in Tennessee last year and likes the vols a little bit. Could be a good add.

23. DE Tyler Robinson- Tough kid with a great motor. Has the ability to play either DE or TE. Would be nice to take an Alcoa kid with all the talent coming out of there in future years.

24.Corey Miller/Brandon Willis/ Marcus Lattimore- Best trio in recent memory. All from Byrnes in SC. all three have been on campus, but all three are tough pulls and they are not a package deal. This is a real long shot and that is why they are so low on the board. But we will see if the new staff decides to put some press on them.

25. Corey Acosta- We need a kicker, and this kid is the best in-state. Would fill a need.

Just Missed and are very interested in the vols: Bo Wallace, Marquis Wallace, Shayon Peppers, Andre Monroe, Orleans Opoku Drakwa, Hutson Mason, Malik Stokes, Mark Gooch

Just Missed because they are long shots: Christian Green, Pete Thomas, Lamarcus Joyner, Matt James, Zak McCray, Jeffrey Whitaker

Also hard to miss was Chapel Hill (NC) offensive tackle Robert Crisp. The 6-foot-7, 299-pounder has offers from every team in the ACC along with Michigan, Tennessee and Georgia. Although he went to every N.C. State home game this year, Crisp claims that he's completely open and would like to wait until he takes all his visits.

Not likely to drop a pass, Markeith Ambles has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Nebraska, UNC, South Carolina, Tennessee and should end up with 40 or 50 by the time it's all said and done. The McDonough (Ga.) wideout will take all five official visits.

DeSoto actually brought several top prospects to San Antonio, including running back Marcus Murphy. With no offers on the table yet, the 5-foot-9, 170-pounder is hearing from Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith quarterback Phillip Sims' list continues to grow and he said Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Southern Cal and Miami are his top schools. Among the in-state schools, Virginia is in front.

This guy has Eric Watson ahead of Marcus Lattimore? Amateur. It seems as though all you have to do is put on a bunch of 2* or 3* recruits from the state of Tennessee and everyone thinks your god. It may be a decent class out of Tennessee this year but this list is a joke.

Whether or not you agree with it is one thing, but the guy seems to be able to read recruits and their words very well. He has called commitments when they were just a fart in the wind to most.

None of the TN guys he listed will be 2 stars. They'll probably all be 4s.

DQB Barry Brunetti, 6-2/210, Memphis (Tenn.) University

ASSETS: Has a very live arm, good spin on his passes and good overall body structure.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Needs to work on his drops and overall footwork.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE AT COMBINE: He threw the prettiest deep balls of any quarterback that participated in the event.
CONCLUSION: This dual-threat quarterback has the ability to throw deep. He should become a very hot commodity for any college that runs the spread offense.

Its not like Kiffin is going to turn down a QB if he has the ability to run. That's not why he turned away Boyd.

He could be a pass first guy...has to work on his footwork as stated earlier but I think he could pan out in a pro style O.
