2010 Prospects

it would be great to have the nation's number one QB in the class, but he's not the solution at QB for at least 3yrs if he redshirts and then takes a 2-yr break.

his YouTube video is phenomenal. he's got arm strength and great mobility, not to mention impressive accuracy.

the other possibility---

those in the church take their mission trips at nineteen.
6-19-91 is his birthday which means he could take it immediately after high school without enrolling at college.

then, when he finally does enroll, he may have to battle an established starter or a back-up who's been in the system on a more consistant basis.

he'll be 18 in June of this year (prior to his SR yr of high school).

he'll turn 19 in June of 2010 after finishing his senior season.

theoretically he could take his mission trip after high school and then first enroll in classes in 2012.

here's an excerpt from the Salt Lake Tribune---

"...between 80 percent to 90 percent of those from active LDS families go. At BYU, for example, there are virtually no 19-year-old men."

NewsModo: Article Display - Mission metamorphosis

I Googled 'Jake Heaps mormon' and got these three things as the top results---

1-his Scout page
2-his MySpace page
3-this thread's link showing "not worth taking the mormon kids.."

It's not exactly welcoming with open arms...

To my non-coach eyes, he's a stud on film and whoever wins the Jake Heaps sweepstakes will be delighted to have him. If he steps into a starting role at 21/22, the team will be getting an older and wiser leader, with more maturity and poise than a fresh-faced teenager straight off the bus. He'll be more grown up with more life experiences than many of his teammates, which I think could bode well for someone stepping into a leadership role.

This guy looks really good. He's 6'4.5, from Alabama, backed up Bama commit Brad Smelley as a sophomore, and still threw 7 TDS. As a junior he threw for 29TDS and just 5INTS. Whats even cooler is that he is a spitting image a Sam Bradford. It sucks he lives in Tuscaloosa. If we could somehow snag him from Satan it would send a message throughout the SEC.

I'm going to have to disagree with that part. I'm not sure that looking like beady eyes Bradford is a good thing. Bradford may be a solid quarterback, but he's certainly goofy-looking.

I'll second that. When he is gazing to the sidelines for 3 minutes at a time he really does look like a wild animal attracted to th light of a living room.

a new article at Rivals says he may be the best WR from TN in the past two years (putting him ahead of Marlon Brown).

if we get Brown it could help draw Malone with the two of them being Memphis kids. Miami is his early leader, but it's not like Ken Dorsey and Larry Coker are still taking them to national title games. TN has so much more upside than Miami it's not even close.

according to Scouts & Rivals he has multiple early offers from various ACC/SEC schools.

neither site, however, shows an offer from Miami.

he has an offer from Duke, which I assume means he has an impressive GPA.

In the wake of the Mavre transfer block, I just don't see why anyone would want to play for Randy Shannon who said, 'We told every player, `We're recruiting you this year. Next year we're going to find a guy to replace you.."

source: Marve saga leaves no one looking good - Sports - MiamiHerald.com

I understand you could interpret that to mean that he expects a competitive environment, but it also comes across as a coach who has no loyalty or admiration for his players.

Coker did not win with his players - those were butch Davis kids and we see how coker left the program. Not so shure about Shannon yet but no 1 class last year and top 10 or 5 this year it looks good. And he keeps his players straight unlike coker. As far as marve I liked him but jacory Harris looked better this year.
But hopefully we get this kid plus he is instate.

Yeah, ignorant people are a bad representation of UT and our state as a whole.

Malone will be a stud. His offense at some times during the year ran the "Threw the ball to Keiwone" offense. I believe he had something around 260 yards recieving for 3 or 4 TD's against Dyersburg in the state quarterfinals.

You didn't see him in-person, did you?

I watched his Rivals tape, but it's low-quality and you often don't see him until he's catching the ball. You can't judge his routes or speed. It certainly does look like all they're doing is throwing up jump balls to his general area.

He's benefiting from good receivers. he throws into tight coverage which may work in high school but not in the SEC. Good coaching may turn it around but right now makes me queasy.

In a new piece on Heaps, he never mentions a possible mission trip and he even says he's considering mid-term enrollment.

"Tennessee has been on me a lot since Coach Kiffin came on," he said. "He and coach Reeves are recruiting me, because coach Reeves was recruiting me as the quarterbacks coach when he was with South Carolina. They are definitely on board with me, and the last conversation we had was a good one.

Scout.com: Heaps has offer

He also states, that he follows recruiting and depth charts, but doesn't fear competition. UNC, BYU, UW are among others in contact with him.

I also read recently that there are exceptions to the mission trip policy. There have been professional athletes who took missions after retiring from their respective sports.

I like what he has to say in the article, he seems inquisitive and ambitious.

Wherever he goes, I'm looking forward to seeing him play and I wish him the best.

He's obviously looking for a place where he feels comfortable and where he can be the center piece of an aerial exhibition---sounds like someone we tailor-made for the Fighting Kiffins.

Defensive Tackle Tim McAdooBefore this season the Oakland Patriots hadn't had a winning season since 2002. In fact, from 2003-2007 they had combined for only 15 wins. 2008 they had 14 wins and a 5A State Championship.

One reason for their success this season was Junior Defensive Tackle Tim McAdoo. He was also a Mr. Football finalist. The 6-foot-2 310 pound aggressive and nasty 2010 prospect wasn't satisfied just being a Mr. Football finalist though.

"I want it real bad, I want to get it this season", McAdoo said.

McAdoo and The Oakland Patriots won the 5A Championship by beating Franklin 20-13. "We just wanted it better than our opponents did." McAdoo has bigger plans for his senior season, "I want to go out with a bang."

For the season, McAdoo ended with 96 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 5 sacks. He was named the Region4-5A Defensive Player of the Year.

When it comes to playing possible playing D-1A football "I want to look at my options and see which one is best for me."

McAdoo is receiving letters from Carson-Newman, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, and Tennessee. Working out and improving his game is a priority for him.

I do know that while South Carolina is recruiting him they have little to no shot of getting him. My prediction for his school is Washington.

Personally I think BYU is at the top of his list, with UW in 2nd, but he hasn't actually leaned towards any school.

there have been a few quotes from other BYU recruits that make me believe it's at the top of his list.

When he attended the BYU UW football game with another player that committed to BYU, the other player was asked if he was trying to recruit Jake at the game, and he said it was the other way around.

Another similar instance was his official BYU visit with a few other recruits that had committed, one of them vaguely cited Jake as one of the reasons he chose BYU.

As for UW, he has always been a fan, and he seemed excited about Sarkisian, and it's close to home.

but this is all just speculation, because Jake is the kind of kid who would only say good things about any program or university, which can explain why a lot of programs are feeling good about getting him.

Nice post, Skyline. I don't know who your sources are, but these seem much more credible than most of the "my girlfriend's brother's neighbor told me" posts.

His videos online are great. I could watch those in repeat rotation all afternoon (and sometimes do). I'm really looking forward to seeing him play, wherever he goes.

If he goes to Florida, though, I'll be taking all that back.
