it would be great to have the nation's number one QB in the class, but he's not the solution at QB for at least 3yrs if he redshirts and then takes a 2-yr break.
his YouTube video is phenomenal. he's got arm strength and great mobility, not to mention impressive accuracy.
the other possibility---
those in the church take their mission trips at nineteen.
6-19-91 is his birthday which means he could take it immediately after high school without enrolling at college.
then, when he finally does enroll, he may have to battle an established starter or a back-up who's been in the system on a more consistant basis.
he'll be 18 in June of this year (prior to his SR yr of high school).
he'll turn 19 in June of 2010 after finishing his senior season.
theoretically he could take his mission trip after high school and then first enroll in classes in 2012.
here's an excerpt from the Salt Lake Tribune---
"...between 80 percent to 90 percent of those from active LDS families go. At BYU, for example, there are virtually no 19-year-old men."

I Googled 'Jake Heaps mormon' and got these three things as the top results---
1-his Scout page
2-his MySpace page
3-this thread's link showing "not worth taking the mormon kids.."
It's not exactly welcoming with open arms...
To my non-coach eyes, he's a stud on film and whoever wins the Jake Heaps sweepstakes will be delighted to have him. If he steps into a starting role at 21/22, the team will be getting an older and wiser leader, with more maturity and poise than a fresh-faced teenager straight off the bus. He'll be more grown up with more life experiences than many of his teammates, which I think could bode well for someone stepping into a leadership role.
