2011 PG Wes Washpun Commits to Vols

the kid has a 43 inch vertical..

AND COACH SAYS THAT IS UNDERRATED, THAT IT'S CLOSER TO 44-45 INCHES!!!!!!! I have never heard of such a vertical to be honest from any of our athletes (basketball or football)

I also like they say he can change direction on a dime, I always felt we lacked a point guard that could shake his defender. Once the first guy is beat, it puts the defense in scramble mode.

This is the type kid CCM said he wanted to recruit - hard working 4 yr guys. I hope CCM and his staff can develop this kid. Hopefully he can improve his shooting because it looks like he can drive to the basket. I would love to see us with a pg who will control the tempo of the game.

Does anyone know his assist to turnover ratio numbers?

According to iowapreps.com he had a 2 to 1 ratio.

Don't question Coach Zo! He is certainly smarter than you whiners on here who have never coached a day in your life. GBO!

FWIW:

@ReggieRankin Washpun does a great job setting the tone on D and pushing the ball he is also a very good athlete. Sleeper Alert!!

@ReggieRankin PG Wesley Washpun is a nice late pick up for Tennessee. Saw him at the T-Wolves Shootout.

Mr. Bam,
I disagree that if you are great in HS basketball your team wins no matter what. I remember watching my Uncle coach a team to victory over Shareef Abdur Raheems team. His team had 2 guys who would go on to play D1. Shareef was in the league 2 years later.

His senior class has 3 guys I believe going to D1, he is coming here, the 3 point shooter is headed to Iowa and another kid is going to Wisconsin. That is a ton of talent, but it does not automatically equal victories in high school.

Really? What school did your uncle coach because I go to the high school where shareef played and has relatives that still go there. He won a state championship in 94 I believe

I'll rephrase.. Perhaps we have 3 point guArds because ccm is unsure about our point guard depth.. Better?

You can't have enough point guards on the team. We have tried to recruit the top points in the country, failed and replaced them with Juco players. This method has not been successful. You need one great and one adequate point guard at all times and this position is the most difficult to replace when injured. I hope we recruit 2 more. Its better if they are not shooters so they stay focused on assists and penetrating the defense.

Golden was never recommended as a point guard by anyone who analyzed his game.
he was another of the long line of shooting guards we hoped to turn into a PG.
it was evident from his play this year, that he was not comfortable at the position.
nice to see we're recruiting guys that have played PG.
