2013 F Austin Nichols (Memphis Briarcrest)

That's the point.

I guess so. I didn't take him as the kind of recruit that expected to go to UNC and be "the man", but the more I think about it, he's a top 50 recruit and just about every top 50 recruit expects minutes. Problem is, UNC has about 13 top 50 recruits and not enough minutes to go round. McDonald is redshirting this year (I think), so he's got 2 more to make a splash.

Tatum is a go-to guy on this down team? I would venture to say that you are the only person on this board with that opinion.

Haymaker = Gay joke?

Anyways, it seems you may actually have some insight into the Nichols' recruitment, which I can respect. It's more than can be said about Mr. 5000.

For my own edification, and without you revealing your sources too much, how are you connected with Briarcrest?

There's that phrase again. "Recruited him". If you send a letter to a kid or make a phone call, is that enough to be "recruiting him". If that's so, then Cal has "recruited" maybe a hundred players this season alone, and 50 schools probably recruited Stokes.

It's disengenuous to insenuate that Kentucky was going hard after Stokes, because they just weren't. I understand if fans want to believe that their coach got a recruiting victory over another coach, it feels good. But it simply didn't happen with Cal in this instance.

Tatum has better numbers than that because he's a go to option for a down Vols' team this season.

McDonald's numbers weren't great because he was 6th or 7th man on an Elite 8 team stocked with like 8 other McD AA's.

Look, you can accept it or reject it, but if you followed the Stokes' saga, several coaches had a good idea by November where Stokes was going and why. Cal was one of those coaches.

Like I said man, accept it or don't. It's no skin off my ace.

Please quit arguing in OUR thread. Some of us want actual information on potential recruits.

Apparently you didnt follow Stokes recruitment or just live in your own little world.

You are only focusing on the end of the recruitment. From the beginning Stokes favored UT and loved Pearl. When Pearl left he had to make sure UT was still going to be OK. Once Martin won him over he went where he had always wanted to go. Make no mistake, Cal and Pastner recruited him and wanted him, especially after Pearl left. Do you really think if Stokes wanted to go to UK or UM he would give it up just to play 15 games with a rebuilding UT team. He could easily have waited and played summer ball and went to memphis or UK.

I dont know Stokes family and friends but know some of Clear's. Stokes always wanted out of memphis and to go to UT just like Clear. Thats the facts whether you like them or not! Once he decided Martin was going to be successful and was the best coach for him, the open spot at UT just helped seal the deal. So yes, by November everyone knew where he was going, but the open spot was hardly the only reason.

Get used to it! Now be gone from our site!

Stokes was the first person that Pastner recruited when that dead period ended and Pastner set up a visit at 12:01 AM.

Do you not remember that part?

You're entitled to your beliefs, however erroneous most think they are.

There was one/two deciding factor for Stokes, and "getting out of Memphis" didn't come into play.

I think he actually called Shaq Goodwin at 12:01, or maybe Poythress. A visit to Stokes wasn't far behind though, I'm sure.

Isn't this thread about Austin Nichols though?

Completely wrong.

Like I said, I wouldn't expect Vols fans to believe anything different. The mind perceives facts in a manner that supports ome's pre-established beliefs, for the most part. I've reviewed what happened with Stokes several times on this board, so I'll save y'all my spiel.

I like Stokes, by far my favorite Vol player. I've got no ill feelings towards the kid for not choosing Memphis. He made what amounted to a business decision.

Look in the mirror bud! GEEZ!

Far from a business decision dude, like I said get used to it. Im done, back to Nichols!

Whatever man. His family got ticked at the whole situation with HS ball in Memphis. Things didn't fit well, so he transferred to Southwind. Things got political and the typical Memphis pressures didn't sit well with the family. They, and he, wanted to go somewhere where he wouldn't have to deal with the bs, which there is a lot of in the coaching circles and AAU.

When you actually know something that you didn't read on a board, let us know.

Yep, he was so fed up that fall that he made multiple promises to the Memphis staff that he was commiting to the Tigers. Right? Makes sense. He told the staff as late as the last week of October that he would suit up for Memphis in 2012. (He even had mechanations of announcing Memphis via jac-o-lantern on Halloween) Then, it became apparent that he wouldn't be playing HS ball in 2011-2012, and so he set his sites on graduating early and playing somewhere. Memphis, Kentucky and Arkansas (I believe) didn't have schollies for him. Rather than ride the bench this season and fight for time next season on Memphis' or Florida's roster, he chose the available scholarship at UT, immediate playing time and the ability to showcase for 1.5 seasons before declaring in 2013. His decision came down to one thing: available scholarships. If he was cleared by the TSSAA, he'd be in Memphis blue in 2012, and you can take that one to the bank.

That's why I love the kid. Still has love for the hometown team.

That was from Twitter, SMH! An Arkansas fan wasnt it? LOL!

He always wanted to go to UT, thats the facts bud. No way he was ever going to memphis, I know this for a FACT! Memphis was probably fourth on the list! HE and his family didnt want him in memphis!!! Thats why they send all there kids to UT. He loved memphis so much he went to play 15 games with a rebuilding UT team. That was the deciding factor! HA! You're going off twitter and a bunch of hearsay, LOL! PATHETIC!

I'm going off a reliable source that has spoken with Stokes and his family going on 3 years. This source called Stokes to UT in November, for what it's worth. He's been dead accurate about the entire ordeal, so there's no reason to doubt what I've heard.

Rationalize it anyway you see fit, it's in the past and Stokes is a Vol and I'm happy for the man.

Remember this is the same source that said stokes broke chievouse nose AND jaw.

Yet a week later chievous was seen with no bruising or facial marks.

Really, Mr. 5000? Fight happened prior to SC game, if I remember correctly, and Cheivous finally pops up 2+ weeks later? Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

No you're butthurt and delusional!

EVERYBODY knew by November! You coulda got on VN for that scoop.

I'm sorry man, but that's simply not true. Rivals and Scout were still calling him a Tiger as late as December 17th or so.

I've said I'm happy for Jarnell, I'm glad he's at a program where he's the centerpiece, that will help him get to the next level. He loves Memphis, and I wish Memphis folks would go easy on him for picking the Vols.

Memphis has a McD's AA coming in next year at the four spot, and may pick up another one at the 5 before all is said and done. We're more than loaded in the frontcourt.

Tennessee is definitely in his top 3 choices right now. I have heard it out of his own mouth @ the gym. He always sports the Power T cut off short when he is in there.

So Rivals and Scout were wrong according to both of us. That doesnt help!

Stokes doesnt hate memphis but he loves UT and it was no business decision.

Give Martin 3 years and we will see what our front court looks like. Our front court, after one year is looking much better than Pastners did his first year, so we will see.

That clown is a net surfer who takes all the information he reads and puts it together to form a puzzle and throws in "from close to the family" or "within the program" to make it appear accurate. Just like the Chievous bs.
He knows nothing first hand, or even second hand, about the situation.

No he was actually seen less than a week later. He was at the following home game versus Arkansas, and was supposedly seen in the UC prior to that.

Sorry but broken Jaws usually take about 4-6 weeks or a full recovery, and most times require a wire that is clearly visible to others.

Most say there was an altercation, but all the broke nose, jaw, and jaw being wired shut was not true. His source is obviously no source. Just a some memphis homer apparently.

Sorry guys, back to Nichols
